NEW IBERIA, La. --- Aug. 3-9, 2014 is National Farmers Market Week. On Tuesday, Aug. 5, at 5:30pm, Mayor Hilda Curry will read a proclamation during the New Iberia Board of Trustees' regular meeting in honor of farmers who participate in our local Farmers Markets. Visit our five farmers markets for fresh foods, homemade items and arts and crafts.
The Teche Area Farmers Market is held every Saturday from 7 - 11 a.m. and Tuesday from 2:30 - 6 p.m. in Bouligny Plaza in New Iberia. You can experience a harvest of delicious homegrown produce and homemade products by area farmers, artists and crafters. Also included are handmade cypress yard objects, homemade bread and fresh baked goods, ceramics, honey, jellies, jams, herbs, candies, handcrafted wooden bowls and utensils, birdhouses, garden benches and much more.
The GLC Farmers Market takes place every Wednesday from 2 - 6 p.m. at the GLC Meat Market on 211 N. Main St. in Loreauville. Local farmers sell produce, plants, honey, homemade pies and other items grown locally. Grass-fed beef, pork and lamb are also available at the meat market during this time.
The Jeanerette Farmers Market is held every second Saturday of the month in Jeanerette City Park from 8 a.m. - 12 p.m. Locally-grown foods and handmade items are sold throughout the day.
The BestLife Iberia Flash Market the newest of our local farmers markets, but it is already becoming popular! It is a mobile farmers market held every fourth Thursday of the month from 4 - 6 p.m. The events are designed to increase easy access to fresh, locally grown food and food options for the citizens of Iberia parish. The Delcambre Seafood and Farmers Market will be held from 8 a.m. - 1 p.m., on Sept. 6, Oct. 4, Nov. 1, and Dec. 6, 2014. You can enjoy what's fresh for the season from area farms and local waters, along with tasting opportunities and recipes, live music, kids' activities and other special events.
