NEW IBERIA, La. --- The Delcambre Shrimp Festival has become a staple as one of the South's best in AAA Southern Traveler.
In the July/August 2014 issue, the festival was named a "Travel Treasure" for its different shrimp preparation styles during the annual festival, as well as its appeal to typical AAA members. The festival also received a certificate in honor of its new title.
The Delcambre Shrimp Festival celebrates the shrimping industry with events including a shrimp cookoff, queens' pageants, fais-do-do's, carnival rides, blessing of the shrimp fleet, food court and much more.
This year's festival will take place Aug. 13-17. Admission is free except for Friday and Saturday. At the shrimp cookoff, revelers can sample boiled shrimp, fried shrimp, grilled shrimp, shrimp sauce piquante, baked shrimp, bacon-wrapped shrimp and coconut shrimp, among others.
The entertainment lineup includes DJ Homer Stelly on Wednesday and Thursday; Kyle Wooten, Frank Foster and Wayne Toups on Friday; Krossfyre, Beau Young, Jamie Bergeron and Tracy Lawrence on Saturday; and TK Hulin & Smoke with Willie T, Warren Storm and GG Shin on Sunday.
"We're pleased to add the Delcambre Shrimp Festival to the growing list of 'treasures' in our region," said Michael Right, editor/publisher of AAA Southern Traveler. "Our members recognize the South has endless travel and recreational opportunities. We try to offer events like this to our readers to encourage more exploration of local sites and attractions."
AAA Southern Traveler circulates to more than 260,000 AAA homes in Arkansas, Louisiana and Mississippi. More than 70 percent of readers choose the South for their vacation destinations.
