BACKGROUND:

One hundred eighty years ago, the Weeks family moved into their home on the Bayou Teche. Today, the home is called Shadows-on-the-Teche. The Shadows is offering a history camp for children ages 6-11 to explore activities which children might have experienced in 1834. The five day camp will be held Monday, June 16 through Friday, June 20, 2014 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day. The week will culminate with a play portraying the move based on information in the Weeks family letters. The play will be performed by the campers and showcase activities which they experienced throughout the week from building a birdfeeder to creating kites.

An admission fee of $125 covers the costs for supplies for the camp. Registration began April 28th. A limited number of participants will be accepted. Participants will continue to be accepted until all spaces are filled. Send applications with a check to confirm the young person's registration. For additional information or to register, call Catherine Schramm, Shadows Education Curator, at (337) 369-6446. The Shadows is located at 317 E. Main Street, New Iberia, LA 70560.
