IPAL's "Spamalot" musical
opens Thursday
NEW IBERIA, La. --- Spamalot, the Tony Award winning Broadway musical, is a musical comedy "lovingly ripped off from" the 1975 film "Monty Python and the Holy Grail." The Iberia Performing Arts League will present this riotous parody of the Arthurian legend March 13-30, 2014 in New Iberia.

The production is directed by Katherine Caffery, and stars Mike Parich as King Arthur and Kim Monroe as The Lady of the Lake. Other principals include Travis Guillory as Sir Robin, Billy Walker as Sir Galahad, Karl Askar as Sir Lancelot, Martin Smith as Sir Bevedere, Michael Caffery as Patsy, Jackson Beach as Prince Herbert and Milton Resweber as the Mother of Dennis.

Also featured in the show are Mike Durand, Mike Berry, Sarah Menard, Teresa Landry, Blythe Bull, Craig Colwart, David Wattigny, Kevin Judice and Lynn DeRouen. Additional cast members include Tiffany Dorsey, Brittany Dubois, Lanie Marcantel, Erin Segura, Katelyn Stelly, Michelle White, Bo Belanger, Kaylon Khamphilawong, Wendy Parich, Shelby Pelafigue, Corey Camille, Ben Green, Cindy Hebert, Justin Judice, Charlie Robertson and Donald "Doc" Voorhies.

The original 2005 Broadway production won the Tony Award for Best Musical of the 2004-2005 season. IPAL's Spamalot will be a lavish production with over 100 costumes, nearly as many set pieces and props, and will be accompanied by a thirteen piece orchestra.

According to director Katherine Caffery, "Bringing this show to the IPAL stage has been pure fun! Spamalot has universal appeal for the young and young at heart. The audience can leave its maturity at the door and simply enjoy the music, dancing and comedy along with King Arthur and his Knights. Spamalot brings silliness to an art form."

IPAL is working its usual magic and expects another great musical. In Caffery's production staff are Phanat Xanamane, assistant director; Helen Hodge, vocal director; Bob Morgan, musical director; Billy Hochkeppel, assistant musical director; Kim Degeyter, Travis Guillory, Whitney Willis Hebert, choreographers; Blythe Bull, creative assistant, Teresa Landry, art director; Frank Sierra, prop-meister, Michael Caffery, technical director with Michelle DeRouen serving as producer.

This performance is supported, in part, by a grant from the Louisiana State Arts Council, through the Louisiana Divisions of the Arts and the National Endowment for the Arts administered by the Acadiana Center for the Arts. Other sponsors include Iberiabank and the Iberia Cultural Resources Association.

Performances are Thursday, Friday, and Saturday evenings (7:30 p.m.) with Sunday matinees at 3 p.m. Performances will be at IPAL's art deco home, the Essanee Theater located at 126 Iberia St. in New Iberia. Rating is PG-13.
