JEANERETTE, La. --- The Jeanerette Youth Beautification Committee is planning its next clean up date for March 1, 2014 to clean up Main Street between Pellerin and Canal Street, as well as the Jeanerette City Park on March 1, 2014 at 8 a.m.
The clean up effort is occurring after the Mardi Gras parade and just before the 1st Annual Sugar Rush 5k Fun Run/Walk and the Farmers Market Spring Fling scheduled for March 8.
Founded by Jeanerette High School junior Ocar Vargas, the Jeanerette YBC is comprised of youth volunteers and will concentrate on cleaning and beautifying the city of Jeanerette.
"On our first event we had over 60 excited volunteers come out and support our efforts," Vargas said. "With this next clean up service, we are expecting to see even more volunteers out there!"
Community leaders such as Jeremy Stockstill, the Jeanerette Chamber of Commerce's president, continue to come together in support of the YBC's efforts.
"Each and every time we see the youth of the Jeanerette YBC putting in their time and efforts to improve their community, we are amazed at the citizenship they are displaying," Stockstill said. "The Jeanerette Chamber of Commerce fully supports the efforts of Oscar and the youth. Count on our board members being out there helping these wonderful young adults to pick up trash!"
The Committee is funded via donations from private citizens, foundations, and businesses in the Iberia Parish area and operates as a non profit. To volunteer, donate, or support the Jeanerette Youth Beautification Committee, contact Oscar Vargas at
