    featuring Chef Pat Mould preparing his "Black Drum Creole" dish at the Delcambre Shrimp Festival. Delcambre's seafood brand, Vemilion Bay Sweet, is developing a new black drum pack.
Industry News
  • Our new Discover Iberia Community Resource Guide is here. New to the guide is a 6 gate pull out map insert, a categorized business directory and map locators next to each listing. We printed extra map inserts, which will be distributed at state welcome centers, local hotels and attractions. The guide is an official inquiry response for IPCVB, Iberia Chamber of Commerce, Jeanerette Chamber of Commerce, Iberia Parish Government, City of New Iberia and IDF. Thank you to all of the advertisers and great job Acadiana Media! Come pick up your copy at our welcome center.

 

  • The Louisiana Tourism Coastal Coalition (LTCC) just received a $500,000 tourism recovery grant from BP. Iberia Parish is a member of the coalition, along with Calcasieu, Cameron, Jefferson, Lafourche, Plaquemines, St. Bernard, St. Mary, St. Tammany, Terrebonne and Vermillion Parishes.   • The New Iberia Main Street Program and Downtown Business Association invite artists and businesses to participate in the Fall Downtown Artwalk to be held on Oct. 19. Details here.

 

  • The Jeanerette Museum has booth space available for artists and crafters for its Museum Day Live event to be held Oct. 19. Details here.

 

  • We just received the new Atchafalaya National Heritage Area rack cards. Download the new Birder's Guide to Louisiana here, which includes Spanish Lake, Avery Island and Jefferson Island on p. 66-68. Order a print copy here.
  • Rip Van Winkle Gardens and the Jeanerette Museum are now on National Geographic's geotourism nominations website. Make sure you give them plenty of thumbs up! The next step in the process is for the National Geographic Society to review and approve all entries before the website goes live in the fall. 
     
Marketing & Funding Opportunities
  • SOCIAL MEDIA TIP #3: Brand Ambassadors. Turn your customers into brand ambassadors by encouraging them to review your business online. For example, Champagne's Swamp Tours at Lake Martin gives travelers a flyer asking them to submit reviews on sites like TripAdvisor and Yelp. Urbanspoon is another popular review site for restaurants. You can also post your social media addresses on your website, marketing material (ads, business cards, brochures, flyers, etc.) and at your location.
  • The Louisiana Historical Marker program commemorates facts, people, events and places prominently identified with the history of the nation, state, or region. Historical markers are privately sponsored and funded. Any individual or group may nominate a location or occasion of historical interest for historical marker commemoration. The application deadline for the program is Nov. 6.   • Advertise with Travelhost South Louisiana. Here's a link to their new marketing blog. The magazine is working on a one-time special French edition, which will be distributed in Canada, France and Belgium. Pick up the new Fall issue at our welcome center and check out our ads (p. 4 and 13) and Sam Irwin's article on the Sugar Cane Festival (p. 62).
  • Pride Vacation is looking for door prizes for its grand opening on Sept. 30. The Mississippi based travel agency bought out Raphael Travel so they will now have a Louisiana Office. To contribute a prize, please contact our office.

 

  • We are looking for prizes for the Southeastern Outdoor Press Assoc. Conference in Lake Charles, the Dallas Travel & Adventure Show and the LA Sportsman Show in Gonzales. Giveaways can include, a trip, fishing excursion, food product, gift basket etc. IPCVB is a sponsor of the Louisiana Outdoor Adventures Guide at the Silver level with a ¼ page ad and 3 photo listings. The guide is given out at the shows and people register for prizes.  LTPA just participated in the Forest Lake Wood show in Shreveport, which was similar to the Bass Masters Show. TABASCO minis donated by McIlhenny Co. were a hit! The guides are available at our welcome center. To contribute a prize, please contact our office.

 

Iberia in the Media
  • New Iberia topped Forbes' list of prettiest towns in the nation and received coverage in the Lafayette Daily Advertiser, the Daily Iberian and Fox 15 News. See our press release here.
  • Check out our ad (p. 2) and article (p. 35) featuring the Louisiana Sugar Cane Festival in the August issue of Louisiana Farm and Ranch. Pick up your free copy at our welcome center.

 

  • The Daily Iberian covered the Jeanerette Museum's Civil War Talk (Aug. 20 issue). Don't miss their next event featuring South Louisiana dancehalls on Sept. 25.
  • The New Iberia City Park Playground Enhancement Project, which organized the Acadiana Dragon Boat Festival in March, has raised all of the money needed to accomplish its goal of purchasing playground equipment for City Park, the Daily Iberian reported in its Aug. 21 issue. Details here.
