Chestee Harrington to Present 60-year Retrospect Exhibit this summer in Baton Rouge

In search of 1976 Clifton Chenier portrait (wood relief)

BATON ROUGE, La. --- The Louisiana State University Rural Life Museum in Baton Rouge, La., will hold a 60-year retrospect exhibit featuring the work of world-renowned New Iberia artist Chestee Harrington. Visitors can view "Once upon a Bayou" from June 22 to August 2, 2013 at the museum located at 4560 Essen Ln. in Baton Rouge. The exhibit will highlight more than 50 years of Harrington's art and offer a preview of newer creations.

"My work as a spiritual expressionist is centered on the connection between heaven and earth, and that inspiration begins here, 'From where the Fireflies dance to the Bullfrogs song,'" Harrington said. "The wood used in my polychromatic bas reliefs acts as a conduit between me and my viewers. It has often seemed to me that people are so overwhelmed with stress over loss and gain, coming and going that they forget the true pleasure of living in the moment. Through my gift, I hope to convey a feeling that 'All is well,' and reveal something almost lost, the invitation to the true joy in life, Living!"
