WHERE: Meet at City Park boat Launch in New Iberia, LA
CONTACT: Blake Couvillion, blake_couvillion@yahoo.com
Mr. Couvillion is asking for volunteers, friends, and families to bring their motor boats to help clean debris from Bayou Teche. Cajuns for Bayou Teche is helping to clear the banks of the bayou for New Iberia's first ever Dragon Boat Festival. Close to 50 tons of trash and debris have been pulled out of Bayou Teche in the five years the organization has been volunteering its time on the Bayou. "Cajuns for Bayou Teche and its volunteers have been able to improve the banks of Bayou Teche over the past several years. We love to see new recreational activities such as Tour du Teche and now the Dragon Boat Festival coming to our bayou", Couvillion said.
Volunteers with motor boats are needed to make this effort possible. Kayaks and canoes are also encouraged. Drinks and garbage bags will be provided. Volunteers should bring gloves.
"This new Dragon Boat Festival is sure to be a great time and Cajuns for Bayou Teche wants to ensure that the waterway is fit for residents and guests to have an enjoyable experience," Couvillion said. "Please come out and help to support the clean up effort!"
