Paul Hobbs Crossbarn Pinot Noir 2011
Russian River Valley - Sonoma - $29.99
Produced using hand-harvested fruit from carefully selected vineyards in the Russian River Valley, CrossBarn Pinot Noir offers structure and weight in balance with pure concentrated fruit.
Bright ruby in color and scented with wild berries and rose petals, this lively expression of Sonoma Coast pinot noir emerges from the glass in layers of blackberry and cola with subtle hints of vanillin, cardamom and anise.
"Juicy and focused on the palate, offering sappy red fruit and lavender flavors that gain sweetness with air. Immediately appealing and refreshing, with gentle tannins and very good finishing clarity and lingering spiciness."

Altamura Sangiovese 2008
Napa Valley - $63.99 The vineyard in Wooden Valley predicates a Sangiovese that resembles Brunello more than Chianti. Because it is 100% Sangiovese the true flavors of the varietal are retained. The hand-picked grapes are gently crushed into open and closed top tanks for fermentation. The exclusive use of free-run juice allows the undiluted and unhampered expression of pure Sangiovese flavors. Following fermentation the wine is racked into 60-gallon, medium-toast French oak barrels for 24 months inside the stone winery and caves, thus achieving richness of color and the softening of tannins of this vibrant and youthful varietal. "The 2008 Sangiovese shows plenty of varietal character in its expressive red cherries, licorice and tobacco but with Napa Valley warmth and shape. The wine's volume and depth should allow it to drink beautifully for a number of years. This is an impressive California Sangiovese, something I can't say too often." --Robert Parker 91 points |
