In memory of" Ki Leif Martin

MARTIN, Ki Leif 53, died tragically in a plane crash on June 22, 2014. Ki was well known for being extremely passionate, friendly, and most of all, down to Earth.

He left behind a legacy of honesty, integrity, and hard work. He was a man who you could meet for ten minutes and then feel like you've known him a lifetime. Ki traveled through life by land, by sea, and by air. He operated everything from commercially-licensed RV's, muscle cars, and motorcycles, to multiple boats as a licensed captain and many different planes. It was in the air where he found his true freedom though, and flight was his passion. Ki made sure to share his passion for flying with anyone that wanted to learn. He flew a wide variety of planes and helicopters, and was an accomplished pilot with a long list of licenses. Ki was an avionics consultant and manager for Sarasota Avionics at Tampa Executive Airport.

He volunteered with Angel Flight Southeast, transporting angels in times of need, and also made trips during the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina to bring supplies to those who needed them. Ki owned two of his own businesses during his life, the first being Martin Wire and Cable, and then later Complete Tree Service.

He was also a volunteer firefighter in the 80's at Seffner-Mango Volunteer Fire Department. During one year, Ki was proud to have responded to more calls than any other volunteer or career firefighter in all of Hillsborough County.

Ki leaves behind his daughter, Denise Yates; his son Ryan Martin; his partner of 14 years, Ann Barton; his former wife and mother of his children, Mary Martin; as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. Ki was predeceased by his sister, Kim Martin and niece, Elisha Phalp.

Ki was sent on his final flight in the sky on Saturday, July 12, 2014 from 911 Aam at Hillsborough Memorial Gardens 2323 W Brandon Blvd, Brandon.

Published in the Tampa Bay Times on July 7, 2014

Thank you for your service Ki! God bless and blue skies!

Special thanks to all of the families who gave gift in honor of Ki.
