Hi Kathy

I just wanted to cc you the email about last Saturday's flight that the Albertelli Law firm flew for us.  It was a perfect flight and the email below was sent to the general contact box of the Jacksonville Law office.  If you could make sure that the actual person that made the flight possible gets to see Barb's thought I would appreciate it.  Again, the flight couldn't have been more perfect and Ashish even listened to my non-stop mouth for over an hour! LOL

Thanks

Bud

I am Barbara, the cancer patient that your pilot Ashish Naran, flew from Orlando back to our home in Key West on April 26th.  I want to thank you for making it possible for Ashish to fly us.  Both my husband and I were so impressed with his level of professionalism, caring and thoughtfulness.  It is people like you and Ashish that donate their time and skills that make going through such a devastating illness like I have, so much easier!  A very sincere and heart felt thank you to both of you from both of us!

God Bless

Barbara and Bud

Endeavor Awards
Congratulations to Angel Flight West for such a successful event and congratulations to the first Endeavor Awards Winners! The Endeavor Awards are presented as the centerpiece of a campaign to raise general awareness of public benefit aviation and to spur the collection of data to quantify the importance of charitable flights so generously donated by pilots and airlines. The inaugural event was held May 4th in Los Angeles, CA at the California Science Center.

Technology
Our office is aging! In the past few weeks a number of our stations have died and one of iPads is "on the fritz" making it difficult to handle those middle-of-the-night calls for transplant flights.

If you or your company would like to donate new or used we are looking for:

(4) PCs, Windows-based
(1) iPad Version 2 or higher (preferably)

Of course, we will provide your company/accountant a letter for your taxes

Thank you!

Event Chairperson: Fort Lauderdale Pilot Awards Gala April 17th/18th, 2015. We will be moving this event to the Emerald Hills Golf Club where the Mike & Shirley Brady Foundation will be putting on our Golf Tournament there in 2015. We are looking for someone who has the time and resources to organize a committee to hold our 2014 Pilot Awards there.

Thank you to Volunteer Helicopter Pilot Jane Wareham for signing up as a committee member! We still need a chairperson!

Email Steve if you're interested. steve.purello@mercymail.org

In memory of

Hugo Otto "Bud" Kladivko

Born in Buffalo, NY Oct. 18, 1924 to Hugo and Helene E. (Loibl) Kladivko, Bud passed away April 25, 2014 in Florida, where he had retired to several years ago.

He is predeceased by his parents, his sister Helene and her husband Chester Carter, and son-in-law Francis Migliore, but is survived by his sister Kathleen "Honey" and husband Bob Gardner of  Mountain Lakes, NJ; his brother Dave and wife Dolly (Vit) of Aiken, SC; as well as his children Karen Kladivko Migliore of Three Bridges, NJ; Karl and wife Ana of Clark, NJ; Beth and husband Maurry Mills of Dennysville, ME; Holly and husband Frank Patetta of Lebanon, NJ; grandchildren Sarah and Laura Mills, Abigail Mills (Chad) Davis, Nicholas Kladivko, Emily and Alex Patetta, great granddaughter Amaya Mills and new-born great grandson Owen Reid Davis, as well former spouse Barbara Allena Kladivko, and many nieces and nephews.

Bud graduated from Bound Brook HS in 1942 where he was senior class president, and Lehigh University (Industrial Engineering) where he started to pursue his love of flying as a member of their flying club. He interrupted his college years when he enlisted in the Navy's Naval Air Corps in Oct. 1944 to become an Aviation Cadet V-5, and was given an honorable discharge July 1947.

His employment began with Johns-Manville as an engineer, and took him from NJ to the South (Atlanta, Miami, Birmingham), Philadelphia and finally NYC, for over 25 years. A sales mgr. position for Nashua Corp (NH) followed until, at the age of 50, he resigned to create his own business BK Supply Co. in Middlesex, NJ, handling industrial supplies. Retirement at age 69 saw Bud pursuing his passions of flying and playing golf, as well as family activities, and finding time to volunteer for Angel Flight, a non-profit organization providing transportation for ill adults and children. He also was a supporter of the Twin Boros Scholarship Foundation, which his father started 30 years ago.

In lieu of flowers, donations would be gratefully accepted by Twin Boros Scholarship Foundation, PO Box 444, Bound Brook, NJ 08805, www.twinboros.org, or Angel Flight Southeast, 8864 Airport Blvd., Leesburg Airport, Leesburg, FL 34788, www.angelflightse.org.

Happy retirement

Dear Angel Flight,

I have been flying occasional missions for AFSE for several years and have received a great deal of personal reward from the experiences.  Indeed, some of the missions and people involved will never be forgotten.

My life in retirement now involves about six months away from Florida in a summer home.  My aircraft is a TBM700, turboprop single.  It flies high and fast in pressurized comfort.  But it has become increasing costly to operate and the fuel costs have soared since the $1.57 per gallon when I started with Angel Flight about fifteen years ago.  I am now 72 years of age and although I am in good health and fully proficient, my insurance company views me as an aged pilot and that might also be observable to Angel Flight passengers who put their trust in the system.  I do not want to compromise in any way the outstanding service provided by Angel Flight.

For these reasons, I respectfully retire as an Angel Flight volunteer pilot and ask that you remove me from your database.

This is a difficult decision and I will always value the relationship with Angel Flight and the wonderful people you serve.

Best regards with your continuing service to those in need.

Tom Evernham

Spruce Creek Fly-In Community,  Port Orange, FL

Dear Tom,

Thank you for your years of service! We will be forever grateful for your time and donations to our charity and its passengers!

Enjoy your retirement.
