Referring to Pilot Sandy Showalter:
My next treatment is on the 8th of Oct. But I have to come the day before so anytime on Oct 7th I will need a flight to Orlando MD Anderson and returning to Key West, with a little luck, on Oct.10th. Our flights were wonderful! My husband and I thank the people on the ground involved and the pilots over and over but there just aren't words to express our appreciation and how much what they are doing helps our whole situation. When we left Orlando the pilot made me very comfortable and I slept most of the flight. Everyone we come into contact with is just so nice and caring.
Also thank you so very much for all your help in coordinating the flights and dealing with our uncertainty of a return trip due to the complications with my blood levels. You all play such a big role in helping me to fight this disease.
Sincerely,
Barbara
Way to go Sandy!
These are taking Kathryn Flynn to Newnan, GA on Sunday the 15th and returning her to Monroe, NC last Tuesday.
Sunday:
Fifty-one months! That's how long Kathryn has been a cancer survivor with stage four colon cancer after being given 12 to 24 month to live. Her spunk and tenacity, faith in God, many prayers, wonderful doctors at Cancer Center of America, and help from Angel Flight Southeast have made her life extension possible. Kathryn loves life and told us that her extra months has given her numerous opportunities to give her testimony about what God has done for her and what He can do for those she meets. "God isn't through with me yet!" was her story to me and my wife Gloria as we carried Kathryn.
We had a moment of prayer with Kathryn and her travel assistant Missy and the other Angel Flight Southeast pilots Warren and Connie Brown before boarding our airplane to continue on. Most of our flight was in smooth, clear air above an under cast until we were lowered to 4000 feet about forty minutes outside our destination. I was anxious that the in-and-out of clouds and the bumps encountered would cause some stomach distress, but everybody tolerated the inconvenience without issue. Soon we were safely on the ground at our destination.
The first two hour flight and another three hour leg of Kathryn and Missy's flight from Clarksburg, WV were so much more comfortable than a twelve hour car drive. Kathryn tells us that were it not for Angel Flight Southeast and other supporters of her monthly flights - well, frankly she would be dead. She and her husband simply could not make the monthly lifesaving trips to Cancer Center of America.
After saying our goodbyes, Gloria and I picked up the car my son had left for us at the airport and drove over to spend two nights with the grandkids. We would pick Kathryn and Missy up for the return trip home on Tuesday.
Tuesday:
On Tuesday, my wife Gloria and I flew the return flight home. Kathryn was still very upbeat even though her cancer markers were slightly elevated. Her various sessions with cancer doctors, nutritionist, social workers, physical therapist, and emotional counselors had gone quite well. She was tired, but still most outgoing and jubilant. Over lunch she continued to share her story (really HIS story). One thing that was new to me came about when she asked for her metal spoon to be replaced with plastic. She laughed, "Everything I eat tastes like dirt!" Because of all the cancer drugs, a metal spoon only enhances the unappealing taste of her food.
We soon returned to the airport where we boarded Kathryn and Missy into Dale Fuller's plane for the afternoon flight back to Clarksburg, WV. This time Dale offered the prayers for the safety of our flights and for Kathryn's healing.
Gloria and I returned home with such a warm and comfortable feeling knowing that we had been blessed by Kathryn - and we thought we were doing something special for her!
Doin' HIS thing,
Bob Oglesby

Connie Brown, Kathryn, Warren Brown, and Missy as we transfer for the flight on Sunday. Taken on 9/21/13 at OPF, Mom Emilia, Jessica Diego Co-pilot and up and coming Air Traffic Controller, and Baby Camila Correa on her flight home to TPF. You know Camila was my first Angel Flight I did back in Feb 2012. It was wonderful seeing her and her family again and to see how she has grown and how well she is doing. Thanks, Pilot Dave Rivero Mom Emilia, Jessica Co-pilot and up and coming Air Traffic Controller, and Baby Camila on her flight home to Tampa
