Hi Kathy,
Here is my report and a couple of photos of our trip with Katheryn from Florence, SC to Norfolk, VA.
Our goal on Monday was to safely transport young Katheryn and Mom, Rebekkah from home in Florence, SC to Norfolk, VA where they were to change planes and continue on to Boston with the help of two more missionss. Carl Cook, a friend and fellow church member, and I made and early morning trip down to Florence where we met Katheryn, Rebekkah, and Grandmother. Nine year old Katheryn was born with hip dysphasia and has had nine corrective surgeries to allow her to walk. A doctor at Boston Children's Hospital has a procedure that will provide Katheryn a more long term solution that should get her well into adulthood before again needing additional hip repair.
After completing paperwork, briefing these first-time-fliers on safety and what to expect during their three flights today, we were soon airborne towards Norfolk. Katheryn was most anxious as we climbed out from Florence as the first 5000 feet of atmosphere was just plain bumpy! Hoping to ease her stress, I asked, "Surely you like riding roller coasters, don't you?" "I've never ridden one before", was her reply! After eight or nine minutes, we reached the smooth air that would be our cushion until we started our descent into Norfolk. Beaming smiles and "Look, we can see the sun glistening off the ocean over there!" replaced the ashen faces that made me wonder if I needed to retrieve the "sick sacks". And was it a beautiful, clear day! The sunshine reflecting off of the ocean was Myrtle Beach some eighty or ninety miles away and we could spot the high-rise hotels on the beach.
Soon it was time to again descend into the turbulence and bounce our way the last few minutes into Norfolk. Carl and I wished them well and bid our good-bye's as they started the second leg of their journey to Boston.
Doin' HIS thing,
Bob Oglesby

AOPA Foundation Safety Course |
Thank to a collaborative effort between the AOPA Air Safety Institute and the Air Care Alliance, a fantastic course has been developed for Volunteer Pilots. It's called "Public Benefit Flying: Blancing Safety and Compassion."
Although all of our pilots should watch this course and take the test, pilots interested in receiving FREE fuel from our FAA endorsed fuel reimbursement program are REQUIRED to view it and take the accompanying test.
