Thank You Alan Hoffberg

Dear Alan,

First of all I want to thank you with all my heart for you flying me down to West Palm Beach & the extras that you did that day. I'm just sorry you couldn't get a chance to see your daughter.

It was an experience being in a small plane at the steering wheel and dials. I'm still nervous about big planes, but this felt different. EXCEPT when you gave me the wheel. I'm not up to that level just yet!

Talking to my youngest son Zach, I told him all about it 'cuz he goes to school at AMI for learning how to work on planes & jets. He's al most done with school & I am SO proud of him for he was an auto mechanic first, but wanted to go on. He's great working with his hands & figuring out puzzling things. He told me that they work on a Cessna (172?) the type you had. So he was very familiar with all the things I described to him.

I have decided to have the fixator surgery. I have made the commitment to the 4-6 months of time. It will give me time to catch up on my reading, sewing and painting; the first thing I'm going to paint is my crutches! I figure I can always have the amputation later on if need be. And once it's done like sewing or carpentry, you can't put something back when you've cut it (too small in many cases!).

So that's my decision, and I hope I get you as my pilot. I really enjoyed the time spent with you & hearing about your daughters. So perhaps our paths will cross again. I have at least 6 more times (if all goes well) to travel to W. P. Beach and I spoke to Kathy * she OK'd that.

So now all I have to worry about [is] getting from airport to Paley Institute & back, and staying overnite in a nearby hotel. They told me I won't be admitted to the hospital until after the surgery.

I need a facilitator to figure all this stuff out. I do hope they have one. So it's going to be Valentine's Day (Feb 14) as there was only one [opening] in January that I couldn't make, & that [is] the 1st [opening] in February.

I hope I run into you; it would be very pleasant to continue our friendship. [If] we can't then that'd be a shame!

Oh yes; thank you SO much for mailing my sweater. It's my favorite & comes in handy on those COLD mornings

Many thanks, again,

Linda
