The 2016 SGHS Bridge Run is coming up, and we are beginning to form our team. Click here for more information.
2016 Vestry VotingVN
Next weekend (January 23-24) we will be voting on eight candidates for the four open Vestry slots. The eight persons who have accepted their nomination are (in alphabetical order): Beryl Blatchford, Kim Chitty, Susan Garrett, Wallace Harrell, Tony Kreimborg, Slade Turner, Beth Varn and Ralph Wade. Eligibility to vote is based on our parish rolls for "communicants in good standing". The current list is posted at Christ Church and St. Ignatius. If you are not listed and feel that the omission is in error, please let us know. It is entirely possible that we made a mistake. We will open voting AFTER each of our four weekend services. Voting after services (as opposed to before them) is particularly important on Sunday morning, as it allows the transition between the 8:00 and 9:15 am services to run smoothly. At all services, it also allows for a contemplative preparation for services in the tight spaces of our church.

X Church will resume on Wednesday, January 13th.

Youth News

EYC

Our EYC meetings on Sunday evening continue to flourish with lots of students participating and taking on some leadership.  In the coming weeks we will be intentional in transitioning to a student led evening.  We have lots of gifted and talented students waiting for their potential to be unlocked as leaders in the present and as adult leaders in the future for our parish.  This is happening in all aspects or your youth programming, but especially in our worship portion of EYC.  We close our Sunday meetings with Celtic evening prayer with music and candles.  It seems to be something the really enjoy.

Contact Brad Hamil ([email protected] or 912-223-7276 ) if you are interested or have any questions.
Men's Bible Study
Men's Bible Study meets Tuesday mornings at 7:30 am. This winter/spring Fr. Tom will shepherd the group through a study of the Rule of St. Benedict using a book written by Joan Chittister. It has daily readings that are short in nature. Each one contains a small piece of Benedict's rule followed by some commentary. The study will take approximately four months to complete and may be followed by a men's retreat in May if there is enough interest in doing so. The book need not be the sole content of conversations each week. It could easily be paired with biblical study as well. Contact: Te Turner at [email protected].
Centering Prayer Group
A Centering Prayer group will begin Feb. 3 at 11:00 in the parish hall.  Centering Prayer is a method of silent prayer in which we experience God's presence within us  This method of silent prayer is both a relationship with God and a discipline to foster that relationship.  It is not meant to replace other ways of prayer but is meant to foster a personal relationship and move beyond conversation with Christ to communion with Him.  All are welcome and no previous experience is necessary.  Come and try it out.
Parenting Book Study
The parenting reading group will meet this Sunday.  The group will meet in the Vestry room and will be reading, The Busy Family's Guide to Spirituality: Practical Lessons for Modern Living from the Monastic Tradition, by David Robinson.  Books are available for $18 and will be available on Sunday mornings.  Please call the church to sign up for the group.
Adult Formation
Benedictine Spirituality and The Rule of Life
Join Fr. Tom for the four weeks of Epiphany (beginning January 13) as we take a look at Benedictine spirituality and begin the process of crafting our own rule of life. St. Benedict founded a monastic community more than 1500 years ago and crafted what is now known as the Rule of St. Benedict to help the members of the community order their life. It is a brief rule, and yet it is full of wisdom that continues to stand the test of time. Taking the lead of Benedict's Rule, we will lay the groundwork for crafting our own personal rules. A Rule of Life reminds us what is important in our life and specifically how we continue to nurture our life of faith and grow in Christ. There are no assigned books for this class, however, there will be books offered for suggested reading for those who want to go deeper.

Book Study with Fr. Rian
Fr. Rian will lead an afternoon book study group on Marcus Borg's The Heart of Christianity meets Tuesdays at 2 p.m. in the parish hall. The group will explore Borg's ideas about what lies at the center of our faith.

EC 101
Episcopal Church 101 is a six-week study for anyone wishing to know more about the Episcopal Church, either in preparation for being confirmed, received or reaffirmed (wonder what the difference is among those?) or simply to answer those "why do we" questions. EC 101 will meet on Wednesday evenings beginning after Easter. If you are interested in joining this group or would like to know more, please contact Mtr. Becky at [email protected] or call the church office at 638-8683.
Wednesday Evening Bible Study
The Wednesday Evening Bible Study will resume on January, 13th at 6 p.m. in the Vestry Room. Next week's topic will be the Gospel of Luke.

Parish Annual Meeting and Chili Cook-Off
The annual meeting of the parish and chili cook-off will be next Sunday, January 24, 2015 at 6:00 p.m. in the Parish Hall. All are invited to bring chili and/or other foods to share for dinner. Voting for this year's Vestry elections will take place the evening before at St. Ignatius and at all three services that morning at Christ Church. (See "Vestry Voting" above for details of voting.)
Oyster Roast
The Frederick Cousins Guild Oyster Roast will be Friday, February 5th at 6 p.m. Tickets are $25 and may be purchased from any member of the Frederick Cousins Guild, or at the Parish House office beginning next week.

Clothes Donations for the STAR Foundation
If you have any gently used women's clothing or accessories which you are no longer using, bring them to the parish hall and put them in the box marked "donation box ECW." The ECW will donate them to the STAR Foundation of Brunswick. In keeping with the ECW's focus on women and children, STAR provides computer, financial literacy and life skills training to disadvantaged women. The donated clothing helps students present a professional image during job interviews and in their workplaces. Contact: Klara Faulk at [email protected] or 912-634-2165.
Items needed for mission trip
Dear Christ Church friends,

Feb 13th-20th I will be traveling with a group of volunteers from Frederica Academy to Haiti with a local organization many of you know called Jubilee Kids. http://www.jubileekidsinc.org.

While my co-missioners will be mostly working in the local school, I will be using my nursing skills in a clinic that operates daily in this small community. I have communicated with the nurse who runs this clinic and asked what I might bring to be helpful. As you can imagine they are desperate for supplies and rely on donations. Please look over this list and see if you might have any of these items in your home that you can donate. Maybe you have taken care of someone and still have those supplies. As long as they have not been used and EVEN IF THEY ARE EXPIRED we would welcome the donation. Buying new is great too!

A box for donations will be set up in the parish office  and as you enter the church.

If you can not donate please pray for our group, it's safety and ability to be God's hands and feet in Haiti.

Peace,

Janice
 Thomas
