Do This One Thing
And You Will Become Known
As A Great Listener
Listening is a skill that will propel you into a genre of leaders that are few and far between.
Because we have emerged out of an age of "command and control" leadership modeling and more recently have embraced the benefits of using Emotional
Intelligence in the workplace, our intentions may be on track, but our skill set is lacking. Here is one sure fire way to demonstrate that you are willing to listen, and therefore be "present" to co-workers (and for
that matter, important people in your personal life)
Turn away from the computer and put the phone down when others are talking....
When our attention is scattered in different directions, we are managing to identify sound-bytes of what others are trying to communicate. Without watching the face, the body language or other subtle signals that feed us reams of critical information, we will often misread basic intentions in someone's speech.
