Becoming a "Go-To" person can be a cultivated skill. Here are three ways to not only gain greater respect and loyalty, which can lead to promotion and other rewards, but to also improve creative thinking and productivity:
1) If you see a "problem" or "challenge", make sure you are just as a quick to offer the solution to that problem. If not, you gain a reputation for being a nay-sayer, complainer or even a pessimist. This is a label you do not want.
2) Be willing to listen to others concerns with an open mind
rather than assuming ANYTHING. When you provide co-workers, even superiors a "safe place" to brainstorm and let their hair down, you build the kind of life line that they will choose over and over again when seeking advice or counsel.
3) Monitor your language carefully
When you can help someone "feel" good about themselves in ANY way by identifying or reflecting even one minute observation, they will identify you with that good feeling. Think about the people that you are most comfortable with....do you seek out those that cause you discomfort or pain?
People like people who like them!
