Email Wars: To Be Or Not To Be
The Three Questions To Ask Yourself Before You Hit That Button!

Once upon a time email was a way to
communicate "critical information" quickly, effectively and efficiently . That was long ago and in a far- away galaxy, however. Unfortunately, email has become a default medium for unpleasant conversations that people want to avoid.
Has that happened to you?

Do I Need To Have A Face To Face Conversation Instead  of Send An Email?

Here are three questions to ask yourself to know whether the email you are about to send should be a face to face (or at least) a phone conversation:

  • Are you communicating emotion through the email?
  • Are you avoiding someone by sending the email instead?
  • Will critical information be lost by just reading "content" (words) instead of "intent" (body language, etc.)

If you have answered YES to any or all of these questions, it is time to pick up the phone, or leave your desk to have the communication face to face.  Don't run scared. If you initiate a face to face conversation, you will be able to read the situation so much more accurately, head off further problems down the road and (gulp) actually have a human interaction!
