Judy Hudson is an awarding winning groomer. She is also a popular demonstrator at grooming trade shows. In this lesson, Judy works on a retired AKC Champion Maltese who was recently cut down into a pet trim.
Judy chose a haircut that was stylish yet easy to care for. This modified trim combines styles from the Brussels Griffin and the Miniature Schnauzer. It's an easy trim to perform in the pet salon and looks great on a wide variety of breeds. The key is to look for dogs with a round top skull and enough coat to give a slightly fuller leg.
As Judy works on this stunning little dog, she uses a combination of clipping, guard comb work, scissors and blenders to achieve an eye appealing trim. Along the way, she talks about typical trimming challenges you run into with a drop coated dog. She gives you hints on how to fix the issues quickly. This is only the second haircut this dog has ever had. Judy discusses introducing a dog to clippers and how to work with them if they're a little fussy.
This client has spent a lifetime showing Malteses in the AKC confirmation show ring. She is very set in her ways on a couple areas of her dog. Judy discusses how she keeps the client happy while abiding by her wishes.
The end result of this haircut is striking. But when you're working with such a gorgeous specimen of a dog, it's hard to make them look bad!
