As award winning groomer Irina 'Pina' Pinkusevitch says, "The spray-up is an art form all by itself. It can never be perfect. You can always learn new things about doing them well." Pina demonstrates how to tie up a show poodle's topknot to accentuate the dog's beauty and elegance.
This video is a continuation from Part #1; Setting the Continental Show Trim On a Miniature Poodle.
It is an advanced lesson for the serious pet stylist. If you are looking to master the Continental trim on the Poodle for either the confirmation show ring or the pet grooming arena, this video is for you. A prerequisite before attempting this trim is a thorough understanding of the breed standard, structure and movement along with strong technical skills.
This is the breed Pina knows extremely well. She has shown and bred them for years in the AKC confirmation ring. In the competitive pet grooming world, she has proven herself over and over again with wins and placements with this same trim. Join her as she shows you how to tie-up the topknot, create the spray-up on a show poodle and do the finish detail work on her gorgeous Miniature Poodle she co-owns.
This is a two-part lesson. Last week, we featured how to set the pattern on the body. The second part of this lesson is Creating the Spray-Up & Final Detailed Trimming on a Show Miniature Poodle.
Please remember, as Pina states in the lesson, "This is NOT a trim for a typical pet!" A show trim like this requires a lot of work and maintenance. Weekly bathing, conditioning, wrapping and brushing are required to keep the coat in top condition. Once the dog is shown, it needs to be re-bathed almost immediately to remove all the hairspray from the coat. It quickly needs to be put back into its maintenance program. Dirt and mats are the death of a luxurious show coat. If left unattended, there is a good chance the dog will have to be shaved.
Approximate total running time: 25 minutes
