Planner/ Contract Manager

The Columbia County Department of Human Services is currently recruiting for a full time Planner/ Contract Manager (P/CM). Permanent appointment to the position will be provisional pending results of a civil service exam to be given at a later date. The P/CM reports directly to the Columbia County Director of Community Services and is responsible for creation of the counties' Mental Hygiene - Local Government Plan for three designated disability areas: Mental Health, Alcohol and Substance Abuse and Intellectual/ Developmental Disabilities. The P/CM is also responsible for for oversight of the counties' Community Services Board activities, and the mental hygiene contract agencies' performance, service integration, and other such county, region and statewide related activities. This is a Grade 19A Civil Commission position with a Step One annual salary of $52,644.  Read more

Suspect Gene Corrupts Neural Connections


 

Researchers have long suspected that major mental disorders are genetically-rooted diseases of synapses - the connections between neurons. Now, NIMH-funded researchers have demonstrated in patients' cells how a rare mutation in a suspect gene disrupts the turning on and off of dozens of other genes underlying these connections.

Study Finds That Brains With Autism Fail to Trim Synapses as They Develop  

 

The finding provides clues to how autism develops from childhood on, and may help explain some symptoms like oversensitivity to noise or social experiences.   Read more

The Conference of Local Mental Hygiene Directors advances public policies and awareness for people with mental illness, chemical dependency and developmental disabilities.  We are a statewide membership organization that consists of the Commissioner/ Director of each of the state's 57 county mental hygiene departments and the mental hygiene department of the City of New York.
