The NYS Office of Mental Health (OMH) has released a request for proposals (RFP) for a third round of geriatric mental health demonstration programs entitled Integrated Health Care for Older Adults. Funding is available for projects to integrate physical and behavioral health care for older adults. For a three-year grant period, recipients can receive up to $200,000 a year for the first two years and up to 50 percent of the first year's grant for the third year.  The full RFP is available on OMH's website.

 

The deadline to submit applications is September 20, 2013.

NYS Office of Mental Health (OMH) Regional Centers of Excellence: Steering Committee

 

The RCE Steering Committee met for the first time yesterday for an orientation by key OMH Executives, and to offer their advice and recommendations for the work of the RCE Teams which will begin in the fall.

The Regional Centers of Excellence (RCE) Steering Committee is composed of the fifteen co-chairs for each respective RCE Team (Western NY, Central NY, Hudson River, New York City, and Long Island), along with several statewide stakeholders representing peers, children & families, providers, local governmental units, advocacy organizations, and key State agencies and departments. A list of the Steering Committee membership can be accessed here. RCE Team membership lists are still under development.

New York Health Benefit Exchange Announces New Name & Health & Dental Plans to be Offered
 

 


State Health Commissioner Nirav R. Shah M.D., M.P.H., today announced the new name for the New York Health Benefit Exchange, 'NY State of Health.' The launch of the new name and logo (included below) is an important milestone for communications around the exchange, which will open for enrollment on Oct. 1, 2013.

"The NY State of Health name reflects our commitment to deliver what the exchange is all about -a marketplace that will provide quality, affordable health insurance for individuals and small businesses across the state," said Commissioner Shah.  

The brand and logo were developed by advertising agency, DDB New York, and is the first reveal in a campaign that will air across New York media beginning Oct.1. The brand is anchored in a mantra that defines what it is to be a New Yorker; visit www.nystateofhealth.ny.gov.    

 

"In creating a name, we wanted it to be meaningful, memorable and capture the essence of what it is to be a New Yorker - that unique 'can do' attitude and state of mind," said Donna Frescatore, NY State of Health's executive director. "Across the state, there's a growing sense of excitement as we move closer to enrollment. We're confident the 'NY State of Health' name and campaign will inspire New Yorkers who are uninsured or underinsured to explore the options and choose the plan that fits their needs."      

Also announced today were the insurers that will offer health and dental plans to individuals and small business owners when NY State of Health opens for enrollment on Oct. 1. The NYS Department of Financial Services announced on July 17 the approved health insurance plan rates for insurers seeking to offer coverage in New York's exchange marketplace.  The health plans that will be offered in NY State of are:

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services : A Discussion of Selected States' Approaches

   

A new report from the SAMHSA-HRSA Center for Integrated Health Solutions (CIHS), Financing and Policy Considerations for Medicaid Health Homes for Individuals with Behavioral Health Conditions, reviews the policy considerations and options for states and providers to establish reimbursement methodologies and payment rates for health homes. The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services : A Discussion of Selected States' Approaches,

(CMS) has approved Medicaid coverage of health homes in twelve states, including New York, six of which include mental and substance use disorders as eligible chronic conditions. Learn how these states structured their health homes, especially Missouri and Rhode Island, which were the first states to receive federal approval for health home services coverage. Read

Behavioral Health Care Coordinator

The Columbia County Department of Human Services is currently recruiting for a full time Behavioral Health Care Coordinator.  This is a new title and permanent appointment to the position will be provisional pending results of a civil service exam. The BHCC will provide comprehensive care management in the context of a Health Home to coordinate all aspects of physical and behavioral health care. Current available position requires providing care coordination for adults diagnosed with a serious and persistent mental illness. This includes assuring appropriate follow up is provided at points of transition such as discharge from medical, chemical dependency or psychiatric inpatient stays, etc. The BHCC will assist clients in obtaining services and in developing supports through referral and linkage to community resources. Minimum qualifications:  bachelor's degree in social work, psychology, nursing, rehabilitation, education, occupational/physical/recreation therapy, counseling, community mental health, child and family studies, or sociology AND four (4) years of full-time experience in a behavioral health setting providing direct services to mentally ill and/ or chemically dependent consumers; or experience in linking mentally ill and/or chemically dependent consumers to a range of services essential to successful living in the community setting. A master's degree in one of the fields listed above may be substituted for two years of experience.
