Seniors volunteer for one hour each week. SYC is currently seeking senior volunteers for this program. Mercy Lecture Series

Understanding the 2012 Elections and What Lies Ahead?

Ken Long, Ph.D.: Professor of History and Political Science; Chair of the History and Political Science Department

Wednesday, January 23, 2013

Mercy Hall, Crystal Room

11:00 a.m. Lunch - 11:40 a.m. Presentation

Why did President Obama win re-election? Did he and Governor Romney run smart campaigns? What was the role of demographic changes in America? What role, if any, did luck play? And what does all this presage for the midterm election of 2014 and for future Presidential elections?
Why did Senator-elect Murphy defeat Linda McMahon? Who ran the better campaign and what role, if any, did sexism play? Will Democarats keep the Senate and Republicans keep the House in 2014? And, maybe most important of all, will the President and a divided Congress manage to find a way to forge meaningful and productive compromises to address our ever pressing problems?

$25 per person, per session
