Congratulations - Regional Volunteer Award Winners    
Congratulations to Ryan Yeadon (Calgary), Scott Douglas (Red Deer), Ashley Munro (Calgary), Richard Dechant (Manning) and Charlie Chupa (Edmonton) who were recognized at our annual Regional Volunteer Awards Luncheon on June 11, 2016 in Red Deer.

The Enabling Accessibility Fund - Deadline July 26, 2016 
Up to $50,000 in funding is now available to improve accessibility and safety in workplaces across Canada, through the Government of Canada's Enabling Accessibility Fund (EAF). If your business has under 100 employees, it could be eligible for funding. Also eligible for funding are:
  • not-for-profit organizations, including social enterprises;
  • small municipalities (population under 125,000 as per census data);
  • Indigenous organizations (including band councils, tribal councils and self-government entities); and
  • territorial governments.
New Accessibility Legislation 
What does an Accessible Canada mean to you? The Government of Canada has launched a consultation on planned new accessibility legislation. This is an opportunity to share your thoughts on this topic and to encourage individuals who face barriers and their family and friends to share their thoughts.

AISH Benefit Survey Questionnaire 
The Alberta Disabilities Forum has launched an AISH Benefit survey questionnaire on Survey Monkey.  The purpose of the survey is to establish whether or not the current AISH benefit, including modified AISH need to be indexed to the yearly cost of living and/or are adequate to meet your needs. We would encourage individuals with disabilities or those who are caregivers in the capacity of trustee, guardian or with power of attorney for a person with a disability and/or family member to please complete the survey on that person's behalf. The survey is available from June 20, 2016 to July 14, 2016. If you have any questions, contact 780-488-9088 or [email protected].

Family Fun Day  
A great time was had by all at our annual Family Fun Day, held on June 25th at Calgary Challenger Park. Many thanks to our wonderful staff, volunteers and sponsors who, once again, made the day such a success.

This year, SCI Alberta is also proud to welcome the Chief Correspondant of the prestigious (and entirely fictional) Glasgow Golf Network, Angus McJagger. McJagger will roam the links at the  tournament accompanied by his trusted videographer to interview golfers and offer his sage (usually unrequited) tips to improve your golf game. Funds Available for Functional Electrical Stimulation (FES) Exercise Program 
The Spinal Cord Injury Treatment Centre Society will reimburse the costs for the assessment, electrodes, transition training, and membership for one year for people with a spinal cord injury who choose to commence a Functional Electrical Stimulation exercise program at the Saville Community Sports Centre or the Don Wheaton YMCA. This offer also applies to people with SCI would like to transfer their current FES program to the Saville Community Sports Centre or Don Wheaton YMCA. Superstore Click and Collect Grocery Buying Program
Superstore has added a Click & Collect option a convenient way to do your grocery shopping online and the ability to pick up your order when you are ready. Red Deer Golf Tournament
Join us on the greens in Red Deer on August 12, 2016. Once again, this popular event is being held at the River Bend Golf and Recreation area. This year, SCI Alberta in Red Deer will also welcome well known comedian, Angus McJagger. McJagger will provide entertainment at both the Edmonton and Red Deer tournaments. Show'n Shine BBQ
Red Deer BBQ and Show and Shine
SCI Alberta in Red Deer will be partnering with the Multiple Sclerosis Society to hold a Show'n Shine BBQ on July 23 where modified vehicles will be displayed. This exciting event will take place at the SCI Alberta Red Deer office, 4807 - 50 Avenue. Bring your vehicle to display or just join us for the BBQ. Everyone welcome! For more information, contact

Adaptive Cycling via Medicine Hat Adaptive Sport and Recreation (MHASR) 
Participants can bring their own or borrow a handcycle, adult trike, or tandem cycle. Taking place at Kin Coulee Park (by Band Shelter), Monday evenings, June 6 to Sept 26, Group 1: 6:00 to 7:00pm, Group 2: 7:15 to 8:15pm. Participants can bring own bike or borrow one of MHASR's. Social Bowling Group - New Hours 
Join us each Tuesday for Social Bowling from 5:00 - 6:30 p.m. Join us for conversation if you don't want to bowl. New seating is available for coffee groups! Taking place at Grande Prairie's Bowling Stones Ten Pin Entertainment Center, 11005 - 106 Avenue. $4.00 per game. Cribbage, pool and other games are often available as well. Swan City Rotary Club - 27 Wheelchairs for the North!   
Many thanks to the Swan City Rotary Club for all of their efforts on behalf of individuals with disabilities who were the grateful recipients of 27 new wheelchairs in the northern part of our province. Thank you as well to the Canadian Wheelchair Foundation and the Community Foundation of the Alberta Northwest for all their hard work in helping to make this happen. SCI Alberta is proud to have been a part of this process.

Cash and Camping Lottery - July 6th 


Stop by the Cash and Camping tent at the Northern Casino Parking lot in Grande Prairie after 11:00am daily! Proceeds of the lottery will be used by SCI Alberta Grande Prairie to help long-term clients with medical trips and equipment costs, and to develop peer programs in Grande Prairie and Peace River. Final Draw, July 6th, 2016.
