Throughout the month of May, Spinal Cord Injury Alberta hosted our our annual Chair-Leaders "Enabling Access" events in Grande Prairie, Medicine Hat and Lethbridge where Community leaders swapped chairs for a day in an effort to raise awareness around accessibility and working towards a barrier free future for all. Getting ready for the Scotiabank Marathon
Thank you to our many volunteers and participants who raised thousands of dollars on behalf of SCI Alberta. Brian Martin finished first in the Ultra Marathon! CEO Teren Clarke finished the 10K using an arm bike for the first time!

Ron Hodgson Chev Buick GMC Golf Classic - August 11_ 2016 
The Ron Hodgson Chevrolet Buick GMC Golf Classic is a favorite among golfers - coming up on August 11, 2016  be sure to sign up early! Taking place once again at the lovely Glendale Golf and Country Club, 8:00 a.m. Shotgun start. 

This year, SCI Alberta is also proud to welcome the Chief Correspondant of the prestigious (and entirely fictional) Glasgow Golf Network, Angus McJagger. McJagger will roam the links at the  tournament accompanied by his trusted videographer to interview golfers and offer his sage (usually unrequited) tips to improve your golf game. Funds Available for Functional Electrical Stimulation (FES) Exercise Program 
The Spinal Cord Injury Treatment Centre Society will reimburse the costs for the assessment, electrodes, transition training, and membership for one year for people with a spinal cord injury who choose to commence a Functional Electrical Stimulation exercise program at the Saville Community Sports Centre or the Don Wheaton YMCA. This offer also applies to people with SCI would like to transfer their current FES program to the Saville Community Sports Centre or Don Wheaton YMCA. Edmonton Elections - June 7 and 9th, Information Meetings 
The City of Edmonton is inviting participants to two community sessions focused on improving municipal voter experiences in future elections, in an effort to reduce barriers to voting in municipal elections.

A warm welcome to Judy Ferguson, new Executive Director with the Alberta Committee of Citizens with Disabilities. Judy will replace Bev Matthiessen who recently retired after 25 years.

This directory contains a broad range of information that may be helpful in navigating the Edmonton aboriginal community.
 
Red Deer
Red Deer Golf Tournament
Join us on the greens in Red Deer on August 12, 2016. Once again, this popular event is being held at the River Bend Golf and Recreation area. This year, SCI Alberta in Red Deer will also welcome well known comedian, Angus McJagger. McJagger will provide entertainment at both the Edmonton and Red Deer tournaments. Show'n Shine BBQ
SCI Alberta in Red Deer will be partnering with the Multiple Sclerosis Society to hold a Show'n Shine BBQ on July 23 where modified vehicles will be modified. This exciting event will take place at the SCI Alberta Red Deer office, 4807 - 50 Avenue. Bring your vehicle to display or just join us for the BBQ. Everyone welcome! Medicine Hat
Chair-Leaders 
Thank you to all of our Chair-Leaders participants in Medicine Hat, including Medicine Hat College, the Canalta Centre and the City of Brooks. Thank you as well to Freedom Plus for letting us borrow their wheelchairs!

Yoga Adventure in the Hat
Yoga Adventure starts on Tuesday, May 3! SCI Alberta, Multiple Sclerosis Society and Medicine Hat Adaptive Sport are partnering with Blue Butterfly Yoga and Pilates Centre to offer Yoga Adventures. This is a drop-in yoga program taking place each Monday from 1:15 - 2:15 p.m. until June 13th and is designed for participants who may need adaptations to standard yoga positions. Adaptive Cycling via Medicine Hat Adaptive Sport and Recreation (MHASR) 
Participants can bring their own or borrow a handcycle, adult trike, or tandem cycle. Taking place at Kin Coulee Park (by Band Shelter), Monday evenings, June 6 to Sept 26, Group 1: 6:00 to 7:00pm, Group 2: 7:15 to 8:15pm. Participants can bring own bike or borrow one of MHASR's. Fort McMurray
Wildfires
In light of the recent Fort McMurray wildfires, we are relieved to know that our office and the home of our regional  coordinator, Stephanie Myrick were spared. While the rebuilding of this close knit community takes place, Stephanie will still dedicate her time to serving her clients and will temporarily work from our Red Deer office. Social Bowling Group - New Hours 
Join us each Tuesday for Social Bowling from 5:00 - 6:30 p.m. Join us for conversation if you don't want to bowl. New seating is available for coffee groups! Taking place at Grande Prairie's Bowling Stones Ten Pin Entertainment Center, 11005 - 106 Avenue. $4.00 per game. Cribbage, pool and other games are often available as well. Cash and Camping Lottery


Stop by the Cash and Camping tent at the Northern Casino Parking lot in Grande Prairie after 11:00am daily! Proceeds of the lottery will be used by SCI Alberta Grande Prairie to help long-term clients with medical trips and equipment costs, and to develop peer programs in Grande Prairie and Peace River. SCI Alberta volunteers will be selling tickets from May 30 - June 3, and June 6 & 7. Early Bird Draw, May 26. Final Draw, July 6th, 2016.
