Red Carpet Affair 2016 - Thank you!
On March 18, 2016 Spinal Cord Injury Alberta hosted its 13th annual Red Carpet Affair. Over 200 guests were treated with beautiful music by Canadian violinist Adrian Anantawan, a delicious dinner, heard some wonderful stories and bid on numerous auction items. Thank you to everyone who helped to make this evening such a success!
Be a Chair-Leader!
Throughout the month of May, Spinal Cord Injury Alberta will continue with our vision of a barrier free society in hosting our annual Chair-Leaders "Enabling Access" event throughout Alberta. Community leaders are encouraged to swap chairs for a day in an effort to raise awareness for issues surrounding accessibility and working towards a barrier free future for all. Our goal is to raise awareness and funds that will help persons with mobility disabilities in our communities to achieve independence, integration and acceptance while allowing full community participation.
Governor General's Leadership Conference (GGLC)
The GGLC comes available every four years. Zachary Weeks participated in the conference four years ago and said he found it to be an amazing experience, as have some of our former contacts outside SCI Alberta. This is an opportunity for members of our community to develop leadership skills and make lifelong connections. Find out more at www.leadershipcanada.ca. Alberta Community Health Survey Alberta Health and Alberta Health Services are calling on Albertans to participate in the Alberta Community Health Survey. The survey will ask about your behaviours, lifestyle, health and wellbeing, and how your community supports you to be healthy. Survey results will be available to Albertans in late 2016. They would like you to answer their phone calls from 403-944-3260 to talk to them. Click here to find out more about using the android app to sign up for Study 78.
Registered Disability Savings Plan (RDSP)
Some facts about the RDSP:
1. For every $1 saved, the Canadian Government will match up to $3.
2. If you have a low income and cannot invest yourself, the government will still save for you!
3. An RDSP will not affect your disability benefits. There are no restrictions - you can spend the money on anything you choose.
4.You choose where to invest your money. Many major Canadian banks are offering RDSPs.
