December Office Hours
Spinal Cord Injury Alberta offices will be closed the afternoon of December 24, 2015 and will reopen on January 4, 2016.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family of Weslyn Mather, former Edmonton MLA who passed away on November 22. Weslyn was a tremendous leader and well respected within the disability community and SCI Alberta for her tireless advocacy work.

International Day of Persons with Disabilities
Various activities are taking place throughout Alberta and across the country in order to increase awareness of diverse abilities and promote inclusion for persons with disabilities. Most events are taking place on December 3rd.

The City of Edmonton and its community partners are committed to creating an inclusive community that honors the contributions of all its citizens. Since December 3rd, 2003 the City of Edmonton has actively been celebrating International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD). The University of Alberta Faculty of Physical Education and Recreation is conducting a research study and needs participants with spinal cord injuries who are 14 to 22 years of age. Research investigator for the study is Donna Goodwin, PhD and the title is "Community Recreation Opportunities: Hidden Youth Labour".  Click here for more information and forms.

Adaptive Curling! 
Adaptive Curling has started partnering with Medicine Hat Adaptive Sport and Recreation. Takes place Friday afternoons from 1:30 - 2:30 pm, Medicine Hat Curling Club. Upcoming curling dates: December 4, 11, 18.  January 8, 15, 29. February 5, 12, 19, 26.

Social Bowling Group
Bowling Image Join us each Tuesday for Social Bowling from 2:30 to 5:30  p.m. Join us for conversation if you don't want to bowl. Taking place at Grande Prairie's Bowling Stones Ten Pin Entertainment Center, 11005 - 106 Avenue. $4.00 per game. Cribbage, pool and other games are often available as well. Volunteers welcome. New Housing Available in Red Deer 
New housing available in Red Deer operated by Parkland CLASS and FCSS. Thetr will be shared accommodations with other persons with disabilities and would be great for transitioning back into the community. Introducing SCI - U
SCI-U is a series of 10 multimedia courses about learning to live with spinal cord injury. The courses have been designed to give you the information you need to live a healthy, active life. They were developed by people who live with SCI, in collaboration with researchers and clinicians.

SCI Alberta Launches New Service 
Led by our very own Certified Nutritionist, Kasey Aiello, SCI Alberta launched our newest service in Calgary which focuses on Nutrition. In addition to services such as one on one nutrition counselling, we will also be hosting monthly nutrition workshops at our Calgary office!
