The Canadian Disability Policy Alliance, in collaboration with the Canadian Disability Participation Project Employment Team, has conducted a scan of policy governing employment supports for people with disabilities in 14 jurisdictions in Canada - federal, provincial and territorial. The Policy Governing Employment Supports for People with Disabilities in Canada is the first of three reports supporting the work of each research team. Similar reports will be forthcoming in summer and fall for the Mobility Team and the Sport & Leisure Team.
Young Caregivers in Canada
The study, "Is there a Care Gap for Yong Carers in Canada?", presents the findings of a study exploring the perspectives of community agencies in Edmonton, Alberta on issues related to young carers (young people who are primary caregivers to a family member or friend who is ill, disabled, or has other conditions needing care or support). The study draws attention to a group of young people who remain hidden and unrecognized in Canadian society.

Calgary Marathon
Thank you to everyone who took part in the Calgary Marathon on May 31, 2015 in support of SCI Alberta. We would also like to thank all of our volunteers and our good friends, Cenovus Energy for their continued support in helping us raise much needed funds for those with spinal cord injury and other physical disabilities!
Restaurant Critics Needed!

Stretching in the Sun - June 10th, 2015!
Let's do some more Stretching in the Sunshine on June 10th, starting at 1:00 pm at Kin Coulee Park. As well as enjoying sunshine and lemonade, the stretching portion of the afternoon will be led by Krista Olsson-Campbell and assisted by Maria Undseth of the Family YMCA of Medicine Hat Living Fit Program. Congratulations to SCI Alberta in Medicine Hat who hosted a week long Chair-Leaders event from May 25-29th, 2015. Thank you to everyone who participated for their time and pledges/donations, including the the Public Library, the Mayor's Office, the Medicine Hat Catholic School Board and the MS Society. New Regional Coordinator, Andrea Schulz also spent the day in a wheelchair and says she gained a much broader understanding of some of the obstacles faced by individuals with disabilities.

Grande Prairie Bowling Group - Summer Hours!
Join us each Tuesday for Wheelchair Bowling 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. to bowl or to cheer us on! Taking place at Grande Prairie's Bowling Stones Ten Pin Entertainment Center, 11005 - 106 Avenue. $4.00 per game. Cribbage, pool and other games are often available as well. Volunteers welcome.
Stompede Showdown Parade - Chair-Leaders 2015 On May 26, 2015 our Grande Prairie office had the pleasure of having a float in the Stompede Showdown Parade. Thank you to all of our great organizers who helped us to showcase Spinal Cord Injury Alberta and our Chair-Leaders awareness event that allows us to promote accessibility awareness in our communities. Stop by the Cash and Camping tent at the Northern Casino Parking lot in Grande Prairie after 11:00am daily! Proceeds will be used by SCI Alberta Grande Prairie to help long-term clients with medical trips and equipment costs, and to develop peer programs in Grande Prairie and Peace River. Thank you to our volunteers who helped with selling tickets from April 30 - May 8. Final Draw taking place at the Prize Building on July 3, 2015.

Accessibility Awareness Month
July 2015 has been proclaimed Accessibility Awareness Month in the City of Grande Prairie and the County of Grande Prairie #1. Activities include:

- Bowling Social - includes an open invitation for all to join in for adapted bowling. Equipment provided includes four bowling ramps and one guide rail.
