Provincial Conservative Leadership Update from The Alberta Disabilities Forum In the next few weeks Alberta will have a new Premier. Over the last 5 months, the Progressive Conservative Party of Alberta has been holding a leadership race to choose the head of the party and the next Premier of Alberta. As an organization that promotes full participation in society for people with disabilities, ADF takes every opportunity to ensure that disability issues are heard and political leadership races are no exception. As part of the leadership campaign, members of the ADF Steering Committee invited all of the Progressive Conservative leadership candidates to an interview; however, we were only able to meet with Thomas Lukaszuk. The other candidates, Jim Prentice and Ric McIver, were not able to make themselves available to meet with us. The purpose of these meetings was to provide the candidates with information about ADF's work, learn about the candidates' experiences and perspectives on disability issues, present recommendations on how to move forward on disability issues and to get a commitment from the candidates to take greater steps in making Alberta a more inclusive province. Click here to read a summary of the interview with Thomas Lukaszuk. The first round of voting takes place on September 6, 2014. To learn more about the upcoming Progressive Conservative leadership election, visit www.pcalberta.org.
Farewell to Drew Hutton MLA for Edmonton/Glenora and past Executive Director of the Glenrose Foundation, Drew Hutton had a special connection with people with disabilities.
