CPA (Alberta) Recognition Awards

The Canadian Paraplegic Association (Alberta) will be presenting a number of recognition awards at our 11th annual Red Carpet Affair coming up on Thursday, March 13, 2014. The awards being presented at the Red Carpet Affair include the Gary McPherson Lifetime Achievement Award, the Honourable Lois Hole Community Development Award and, last but not least, the Percy Wickman Accessibility Award. These awards aim to acknowledge the dedication, passion and vision of individuals who are helping to create a truly inclusive community for all. Your input matters. We invite you to consider who best meets the criteria by completing the attached 2014 Recognition Awards Nomination Form. The deadline for submitting nominations is December 15, 2013. Public Review on Proposed Changes to the National  Model Construction Codes - Ends on December 23, 2013

The Canadian Commission on Building and Fire Codes (CCBFC) would like to remind your organization and its members-as important stakeholders in the development of the National Model Construction Codes-to take part in the fall 2013 public review of proposed changes to the 2010 National Model Construction Codes and the 2011 National Energy Code of Canada for Buildings. Province to Improve Multiple Sclerosis, Promote Research

The Alberta government has released a Multiple Sclerosis (MS) plan that will help improve care and support innovative research for the almost 14,000 Albertans with the disease. Read full press release.

Alberta Disabilities Forum on Mental Health and Cross Disability - Survey

The Alberta Disabilities Forum (ADF) Mental Health Working Group is researching mental health issues from a cross-disability perspective. A survey has been developed to gather information on the experiences and concerns of people with disabilities regarding barriers to mental health services and treatments in the province. The results of the survey will be used in the ADF vision paper, which will address the challenges of attaining mental health well-being for Albertans with various disabilities, and what they face through different stages of their lifespans.

Vancouver Bans Door Knobs

The city of Vancouver has amended its building code to outlaw the use of those wrist-twisting devices in all new construction, including private homes. Door knobs had already been opener non grata in large buildings. The new ruling, effective in March, will not affect existing homes. Read more...

 Fall 2013 Adapted Adventures newsletter to find out about upcoming activities this Fall. The CPA (Alberta) Adapted Adventures Program offers opportunities to participate in various recreational activities, such as
spin classes, rock climbing, cross country skiing, scuba diving, etc. CPA (Alberta) provides quality instruction, adapted equipment and affordable programs to minimize barriers of participation. Subsidies available if necessary. All abilities welcome, as well as family and friends.

Adapted Adventures Update!

Cross country Skiing is due to start the week of January 20th from 6:30-8pm at Gold Bar Park.


Integrated Spin Class is starting up January 15

th from 6:30-8pm at the University of Alberta and will go until April 2nd.

 

Scuba Diving is starting up January 13th from 6:45-9:45pm at Terwillegar Rec Centre.
