HEP8225 Single Board Computer Increases System Performance

Trenton's HEP8225 latest dual-processor single board computer represents a dramatic increase in SBC performance, and connectivity over previous SBC designs. System performance gains using the HEP8225 board are realized using the latest Intel Xeon E5-2600 series processors and by enabling native support for up to 80 lanes of PCI Express 3.0 to a backplane. The HEP8225 single board computer offers significant processing capability, data throughput and compute density gains over previous generation SBCs.
Advantages of this latest single board computer architecture include:
- Two links between processors at increased speeds result in higher memory bandwidth
- Support for DDR4 memory for long-life upgradability, scalability and increased throughput
- Additional cores (currently up to 14 per processor) for multi-threaded performance increases
- Increased processor Base and Turbo frequency for higher performance in legacy applications
While benchmarks do not paint a complete picture of SBC performance, they do provide a pretty good indication of what to expect in a typical system implementation. The chart below represents the raw computational capability of the different HEP8225 SBC processor options in a particular system configuration.

HEP8225 Intel® Xeon® E5-2600 Series Processor Options
Currently, the HEP8225 supports long-life Intel® Xeon® E5-2600 v3 processors, formally known as Haswell-EP. Our current HEP8225 processor options are about to be joined with the next processor iteration being developed as the Broadwell-EP class. These upcoming HEP8225 processor options will be known as Intel® Xeon® E5-2600 v4 Series.
