The HDB8227 HDEC Series 2U butterfly backplane enables 2U rackmount computer designs to take full advantage of the performance advantages of Trenton's HEP8225 system host board. Card slots are on both sides of this backplane and driven directly by the SHB's processors. This PCIe switchless backplane design maximizes option card-to-SHB bandwidth while minimizing PCIe link latencies. Additional HDB8227 backplane features include:

| HDB8236 HDEC Series Shoebox Backplane | An HDB8236 HDEC Series small form factor backplane has a size flexible enough for integration into small shoebox-style computer chassis, or combined with multiple backplanes into a single 5U rackmount computer for two-in-one system consolidation. This innovative shoebox backplane design features:
- Four x16 PCIe 3.0 option card slots
- One x8 PCIe 3.0 option card slot
- One HDEC Series SHB slot

HDB8228 HDEC Series Midsize Backplane
|
As with the previous two HDEC Series backplanes, the HDB8228 also features a backplane employing native PCIe links. This PCIe switchless design maximizes SHB-to-card bandwidth while minimizing data latencies. The HDB8228 midsize backplane is designed for integration into the popular 4U rackmount computer chassis form factor.
Routing PCIe links directly to a HDB8228's option card slots eliminates PCIe switch hops between the SHB and any of the system plug-in cards. Eliminating switch hops can provide a 15.3% average bandwidth gain per option card slot compared to previous generation PICMG 1.3 backplane designs. Compared to the 32GB/s aggregate slot bandwidth of a similar previous generation backplane design, the switchless design of the HDB8228 HDEC Series midsize backplane delivers a 5x bandwidth increase for an amazing 160GB/s of aggregate slot bandwidth!
