Dear friends and fellow North Dakotans,

It's my pleasure to personally invite you to join Rural Development, our partners and fellow sponsors to a St. Patrick's Day conference we call 'Green Economics' in West Fargo. We're convening some of the best minds in the area of energy efficiency and community leaders who see opportunity and bottom line benefits to 'smart use' and conservation.

We can all find value and agreement on energy efficiency. I think we'll all find value in this conference as homeowners, business owners, consumers, community leaders and North Dakotans.  I had the good fortune of being raised by parents who had stewardship values honed as children in the Great Depression. Waste not, want not was a familiar refrain.  Shut the door and keep the heat in, turn off the lights, and don't stand with that fridge open while you contemplate your appetite.  Waste less, save more.

Today's technology allows us to save in new and novel ways with a 'smart grid', LED lighting, geothermal heat, heating and cooling and insulating methods and energy sources unimaginable a generation ago.

Come join us on March 17 as we learn together and explore the possibilities. It'll be a good day to be green and find some green.

"May your pockets be heavy and your heart be light.
May good luck pursue you each morning and night."

Ryan

GeothermalUsing Geothermal Energy on the Farm

The Hagemeister family farm in Argusville recently installed a geothermal system to heat and cool their new farm shop. The renewable energy system is estimated to save them about 81,000 kWH per year or enough electricity to power seven homes. The total project cost to install was $92,000 with USDA providing a nearly $23,000 grant through the Rural Energy for America Program. Check out more opportunities to save energy and money!
