Guided Tour of Home, School, and Studio: Women Artists and New Hampshire and Presentation on Contemporary Women Artists

Autumn
Autumn, New Hampshire, c. 1958, by Alice Cosgrove (1909-71) of Concord. As New Hampshire's official state artist, Cosgrove used her talent to mold the state's image in the years after World War II. New Hampshire Historical Society collection, gift of Mary Louise Hancock.
New Hampshire Historical Society members are invited to attend a special two-part program on women artists. The program is part of summer classes presented by LINEC, the Learning Institute at New England College. LINEC
offers non-credit, peer-led, peer-taught courses, and is open to both retired and younger adults.

Part one of the program, held on Tuesday, July 9, from 10 a.m. to 12 noon, is a guided tour of the exhibition Home, School, and Studio: Women Artists and New Hampshire on view at the Society's museum in Eagle Square. The exhibition features 55 works created by women from the early 1800s through the mid-1900s. It tells the stories of these talented women, their subjects, and the times and places in which they lived.

The exhibition tour will be led by LINEC faculty Fran Phillipe, artist and retired educator; and Sandy Dallaire and Peggy Hallacy of the Society's education staff. Admission is free for Society members. If you wish to join or renew your membership, you may do so via this link:

Part two of the program, held on Thursday, July 11, from 10 a.m. to 12 noon, is a presentation and discussion, led by McGowan Fine Art Gallery owner Sarah Chaffee, about the work of contemporary women artists. The program will be held at the McGowan Fine Art Gallery located at 10 Hills Avenue in Concord.

If you have questions about this program, please contact Sandy Dallaire at 603-224-3447 or Stephanie Fortin at 603-856-0604.
