Society's museum collection catalog now accessible online
Random images
A sample page of "random images" from the Society's online museum catalog.

The museum collections catalog is now available online at nhhistory.org! To access the catalog, click "Museum" and then "Online Catalog of Museum Collections."

This interactive catalog contains more than 23,000 records of museum objects and biographies of prominent people.  Most of the records within the catalog have images attached.

This is a significant step in the Society's goal to make its collections accessible online so our members and users can explore and discover the objects and people in our collections.

Users can browse the collections through the "Random Images" function or search the collections via keyword and advanced search fields.

If you have an interest in New Hampshire history, be sure to dedicate some time to exploring this new online catalog. Why not start with Franklin Pierce or John Stark and see what you discover? Also, if you are interested in purchasing an image, you may order reproductions directly from the catalog.

More finding aids posted online

In addition to the museum collections catalog, additional finding aids have been uploaded to the Society's website. A finding aid is a tool used to summarize the collection and describe how it is organized, as well as provide a detailed list of what is in the collection. More than 50 finding aids have been added to our website in the last week!

The finding aid for the Ayres Family Papers is included in the latest uploaded material. This collection of more than 1,000 items of personal and family correspondence documents the life of Philip W. Ayres (1861-1945), conservationist and first forester of the Society for the Protection of New Hampshire Forests. Many of the letters highlight the changing roles of women in the 1920s.
