Join us as we discover the wonder and beauty of our Sonoran Desert home! Desert Foothills Land Trust is thrilled to host our 4th annual Desert Discovery Day - a day of free outdoor experiences and hands-on education at the Jewel of the Creek Preserve in Cave Creek.

Join children of all ages to explore the preserve, learn about the diversity of life in our desert, and to examine the geology and archaeology underlying this magnificent landscape. The day includes stations along the Harry Dalton Trail - children will receive a stamp at each station and a goody bag for collecting stamps. Stations include live animals, crafts, information and activities from DFLT and partners. There will even be free refreshments!

Our focus for the day is to share the Sonoran Desert and the Jewel with our community in order to encourage support for conservation efforts and participation in hiking and other healthy outdoor activities. Other participating organizations include:
  • AZ Archaeological Society, Desert Foothills Chapter
  • Cave Creek Museum
  • Desert Awareness Committee of Foothills Community Foundation
  • Rural/Metro Fire Department
  • Southwest Wildlife Conservation Center
  • Spur Cross Ranch Conservation Area

Accreditation Renewal Comment Period
Desert Foothills Land Trust is applying for renewal of our status as an accredited land trust, and a public comment period is now open.

The land trust accreditation program recognizes land conservation organizations that meet national quality standards for protecting important natural places and working lands forever. Desert Foothills Land Trust was first accredited in December 2010, and is pleased to continue our efforts to demonstrate the high quality of our conservation work.

The Land Trust Accreditation Commission, an independent program of the Land Trust Alliance, conducts an extensive review of each applicant's policies and programs. Being accredited allows Desert Foothills Land Trust to demonstrate to supporters, elected officials, landowners and the public that we are operating according to the highest standards of legal and ethical practice, and to demonstrate our continued commitment to these high standards for protecting land.

The Commission invites public input and accepts signed, written comments on pending applications. Comments must relate to how Desert Foothills Land Trust complies with national quality standards. These standards address the ethical and technical operation of a land trust. For the full list of standards, click here.

To learn more about the accreditation program and to submit a comment, visit www.landtrustaccreditation.org, or email your comment to info@landtrustaccreditation.org. Comments may also be faxed or mailed to the Land Trust Accreditation Commission, Attn: Public Comments: (fax) 518-587-3183; (mail) 36 Phila Street, Suite 2, Saratoga Springs, NY 12866.

Comments on Desert Foothills Land Trust's application will be most useful by October 31, 2015. Thank you!

We Are On the Move!
After more than a decade in our current building, the Land Trust offices will be moving at the end of the month. We're not going far - just a couple blocks away. However, our new home will give us room to grow, more storage, and easier access with a first floor location. We hope you'll come by and say hello! Our new office address will be 36800 N. Sidewinder, Suite C-26, Carefree, AZ 85377. Note that our mailing address will remain P.O. Box 4861, Cave Creek, AZ 85327.

We are doing everything we can to minimize communication disruptions, but there may be a few hiccups at the end of the month. We will stay connected via Facebook and our website if something goes awry. Thanks for your patience!
