We have had a great week with lots of exploration and excitement!
Ms. Lisa's class has enjoyed the visual timeline of their school day. The visual timeline allows the children to see what the sequence of daily activities is and know where the class is in the sequence at any time.
Classroom jobs have been introduced and children are learning about the different jobs that contribute to keeping the classroom environment clean and always ready for use.
Through these activities and others, the children are learning that they are a classroom family and that the classroom is theirs, including the responsibilities to care for it.
"One dot does a lot" is a phrase that Ms. Lisa's students should know after this week's lesson about glue.
The children have been drawn to the geography materials in Ms. Denise's class and they have created some beautiful continent maps complete with flags and animals. The older children are inspiring the younger ones to choose the puzzle maps and sing the continent song. We also continue to build on our ocean animals theme in science and primary colors and types of lines in art.

This week in Lower Elementary your children were working hard!
They have heard many creation stories from around the world. They also learned all about what a noun is, so be sure to ask them!
The children were also given an introduction to fractions this week as a review before they go deeper into the study of fractions.
We have also been reinforcing classroom routines and good manners.
We enjoyed hearing all the book reports that came in from the summer break! The presentations were wonderful and creative.

During the first week, we all spent time getting to know each other, learning and practicing our procedures and getting started with our lessons. This week we have gotten down to business. Students are busy with math, geometry and literature. Students also started working on their weekly readers. Fourth year students are working with Florida Studies Weekly, 5th years Science Studies and 6th years Global Studies.
In addition to our daily lessons, students are working on a performance of the great lesson play and the first great lesson. Our 6th grades are teaming up with our 3rd grades to perform the first grade lessons. Along with the performances, each student is working on a project from a period on the timeline of life.
Next week we will start our weekly practice of our multiplication tables. We will do one group each week. We will start with the 2x tables next week and do one each week up to 12.
Have a great Labor Day weekend and we'll see everyone next week.

This week was a real blast! Everyone is adjusting to the new school year. This week middle school has done a spelling test on homophones C-D. We will be doing spelling tests every Friday for the rest of the school year. Also this week, we talked about different kinds of maps and satellites in Earth Science with Mr. Dick.
We have started to read a book called The Story of the World. This volume is all about the Middle Ages. We also started our Wordly Wise workbooks on grade nine. On Friday we had Reading Writing Workshop with the sixth graders from upper elementary. Students turned in their name poems. We also discussed tone in literature.
This week we started Florida Virtual school as well. The 7th grade is doing MJ Keyboarding while the 8th grade is doing Reading For College Success!
Cedarkirk forms are due. First payment of $130 is due September 2. Second payment is due September 24.
A reminder to parents to get YMCA memberships so that we can start going to the YMCA next week.
We don't have school on Monday due to Labor Day so we hope you have a great weekend. And, be prepared for our first Wordly Wise test on Tuesday. by Nathan Hudgens and Lauren Robinson

Spanish

LOWER ELEMENTARY: We continue with our intensive and extensive review in Spanish. This week we used vocabulary related to colors, numbers, months of the year, days of the week and objects in the classroom. We also practiced some of the songs from last year. Students are participating very well and our lessons go by effortlessly. This is a very productive group.
UPPER ELEMENTARY: The bulk of our lesson was about a reading depicting the tropical jungles in South American. This colorful jungle was the background for a story about a gecko, his siblings and the animals they encountered in the different layers of the jungle. The bright, vivid illustrations transported us to a fascinating world. As an extended project, students had to come up with a type of dwelling (apartment or building) in a city to house different denizens from the Amazonian jungle. It was quite an experience for the children to picture those animals living in a different place other than their habitat. Yes, their residences had four floors just as the four layers of the jungle. Conversational Spanish is practiced on a daily basis.
MIDDLE SCHOOL: Materials and their uses was our unit for the week. Paper, plastic, wool, wood, metal, leather and straw were some of the chosen materials to talk about. We had numerous written and oral exercises, eg; dictations, translations, and writing sentences both on paper and on the board. It was a very interesting topic and the students enjoyed the lessons very much.
TRIVIA FACT: The tropical jungle in South America is as large as the European continent. The Flora and Fauna are like no other in the world. Several countries in South America have teamed up to save this beautiful place. Governments are not just talking, they are contributing money and resources. It is a noble gesture to be emulated!
