Work Day

Each year the playground mulch is replenished at the beginning of the school year.

Last week, a mountain of mulch was delivered and while the children have enjoyed playing on it, it still needs to be spread evenly on the playground.

On Saturday ,August 30th,  parents are invited to help.  Please come at 9 am and bring a rake and/or pitchfork if you have one.
More hands will mean less time for everyone working.
Child care is not provided.

Thanks in advance to those who can make it.
Primary
Friends Noor, Shaye, Abbey, Saathvik & Hayes work together in Ms. Lisa's class

We have had a wonderful week of reuniting with old friends and making new ones!

The children have been very excited to share their summer experiences and eager to get back into learning.

They have been practicing grace and courtesy lessons with emphasis on caring for each other and their environment.  It is touching to see how kind and helpful they have become in the classrooms.

They are also learning about ocean animals, primary colors and the types of lines we use in art.  We had fun pretending to be vertical, horizontal and wavy lines!

Thanks to all families who attended orientation.

Lower Elementary
Back to work right away -
Madeline, Parker, Lucas & Ms. Misty

Lower Elementary is off to a great start!

This week we have spent time getting to know each other with "Me Bags" and games. We have also been working on having good manners and respect for others and the classroom. There have been some changes in classroom procedures, but we all seem to be adapting well.

The children are all receiving new lessons, and are working hard! All the children are very excited about learning.

Thank you so much to all the parents who were able to make it to last night's Orientation Meeting. If you were not able to attend, all the information will be sent home today in your child's folder. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us!

We are looking forward to a wonderful year!

Upper Elementary
Trez & Michael paint their cushion covers after they have sewn them

We have had a wonderful first week of school in the upper elementary classroom. We have spent our time getting to know each other and have taken part in a number of community building activities. Students worked together to develop their job chart for the year as well as coming up with the classroom community's rights and responsibilities. In addition, we created a community tree with everyone's hand-print and learning animal. (The animal that relates to their learning style). We even sewed pillow cases for our sitting cushions.

Students also received their weekly planners, decorated the covers and learned how to utilize them to manage their time throughout the weeks and year.

Along with the team building activities, we have begun our academic and cultural study as well. Students completed their pre-tests for MobyMax in math and language and began their math studies with a lesson on proofing their operations, called 9 proof.

For cultural studies we had a presentation for the first and second great lessons, the origin of the universe and the coming of life. Students are excited about the projects associated with this lesson and in developing their own presentation for the first great lesson and the Great Lesson Play, which we will perform in the coming weeks.

We are very excited for the coming year and look forward to another great week.

Middle School
Middle School Science with Mr. Dick

This week was the first week of school!  It was really exciting to come back from a good summer.

We went over our schedule for the year and set expectations for ourselves. We also started off the year by writing a goal paper. We had our first spelling test on Friday.

We started Earth Science with Mr. Dick.  We will have science class three days a week.  We also had our first Writing and Reading Workshop with the 6th grade students on Friday. At the end of the day on Friday, we went to Hubert Park with Upper Elementary.

We are really excited for this year!                             by Nathan Hudgens and Lauren Robinson

Spanish

"Bienvenidos todos!" (Welcome Everyone!).

Our "batteries" are fully recharged with energy and ready to move forward with the Spanish Program! This week we had reviews at all grades at different levels.  It is always refreshing to see returning students retaining so much from last year and new students eager and excited to learn.

Next week you will read more detailed info per class and the now popular Trivia Fact!

Office Notes
Friday Morning Coffee

Every Friday morning you will find the coffee pot on the patio attracting coffee drinkers!  Feel free to stop in and get a cup of joe to go, or spend a few minutes visiting with other parents.  The coffee pot is put out a few minutes before 8 and remains after drop-off as long as there are parents enjoying it.

Check Out the BPS Library

Just inside the door to the classrooms of the main building, you will find our jewel of a library.  Parent volunteer Maria Appel (mom of Sam) is responsible for the library and has put in many hours during the school year as well as over the summer, organizing, re-arranging, decorating and making the library attractive to students and parents.

The library is self-serve.  You may stop in any time, with or without your child, and select books to check out. Put your name and the date on the card, put the card in the card holder and you are ready to go.  You will see the book drop box for returning books when you are finished with them.

Maria will be in the library on Monday morning if you want to have a tour.  Thanks for all you do, Maria!
