There has been a great interest in our planet that was sparked from some of our Earth Day activities.

This interest has gotten us thinking about how the earth works. We have been discussing its movement, day/night, the sun, gravitational pull, seasons, and other changes the earth makes. We have also started learning about other planets in our solar system.
Wednesday night we had a wonderful "Parent Chat Night". It was a great success and we were able to cover a lot of topics about Montessori philosophy and curriculum. It was also a wonderful opportunity for us to introduce our new primary teacher Ms. Lisa to some of our parents. Thank you to all who came out.
Thanks, also, to everyone who attended the Art Show on Sunday. It was a beautiful day for the show.
Just a reminder that Monday May 12th is our Mother' Day breakfast from 8am-9am. Our students have been working on a special Mother's Day gift that they are eager to share.

Happy Mother's Day! Your children have made you a beautiful gift. Many of them took their time and truly thought about what you would like and what your favorite color is. They also filled out a questionnaire about their moms. One of the questions was, "My mom likes to..." One little boy answered that his mom likes to wash dishes! Another child stated that his mom's name is mom! And lastly, one little guy said his mom was 60 years old. So sweet. These wonderful gifts are going to be presented to all moms on Monday, May 12th at the Annual Mother's Day Breakfast. We hope to see you there!
This week we also started our study of Ancient Egypt. This will be our final cultural study of the year and it's a good one. The Nile, pharaohs, and pyramids, oh my!
We learned that for 5,000 years the Nile River has been the focus of Egyptian life. Many cities and monuments were all built along the banks of the river. The Nile River was and continues too be the main source of water in this region. The Nile also provided a great hunting ground for its inhabitants. As well as, rich soil for planting and papyrus plants.
We wish to thank all of you that came to BPS on a lovely afternoon for our annual Art Show. The children worked so hard on their creations and it is always a treat for them to share their works of art with family and friends.

Students played recorders with the Florida Orchestra on Wednesday

Students have finished reading the book of Greek Mythology and should be bringing it home this week. We're coming to the end of Volume 1 of "The Story of the World." This week we learned about Julius Caesar and Roman rule. Ms. Ann knew of the Reader's Theatre script adapting William Shakespeare's play. We all enjoyed playing our parts as we read through the play. We plan to do it again next week.
Please note, there are two forms for the end of year trip. The one from Cedarkirk must be notarized. Dick and Karen are notaries if needed. Please let them know. We still need parents to help transport us and our belongings to and from Cedarkirk.
Hope to see you moms at the Mother's Day Breakfast on Monday between 8 and 9 am. Your child has something special for you!

Middle School
|
This week has been very busy for middle school. This week we worked hard finishing our career unit. We had to create a resume, an essay, and learned to budget our expenses.
We conducted an egg baby project for the week as well, and most of the eggs are still living. We shot shot the yearbook cover.
We hope all of our mothers will come to the Mother's Day Breakfast on Monday!

Spanish
|
LOWER ELEMENTARY: This week, all our Spanish lessons were presented via games, flash cards and puzzles. We all had an enjoyable time and productive results. Most of the vocabulary used was about every day words. We also had plenty of opportunities for Conversational Spanish.
UPPER ELEMENTARY: Our week went by smoothly with interesting class assignments both in the written and oral format. One of the exercises was to cut out, paste, and label in Spanish pictures that had something in common. "What do hands, doors, cars, closets, purses, books, bottles of shampoo, eyes, and mouths have in common?"--------------No stress----- The answer is........They can open and close! Conversational Spanish is practiced on a daily basis.
MIDDLE SCHOOL: We let our imagination fly and combined our literary skills to write a booklet about an amazing bug. This tiny creature is only small in size, but he goes to regular school where he excels in many subjects and even has some extra curricular activities! Students took time to write and illustrate this whimsical character and its many activities. What a fun way to practice our verbs in Spanish!!
TRIVIA FACT: The churches of the CHILOE (land of sea gulls) Archipelago in Chile, are in the World Heritage List because they represent a unique example in Latin America of an outstanding form of ECCLESIASTICAL WOODEN ARCHITECTURE. They bear witness to a successful fusion of indigenous and European cultures.
