It has been a busy week getting together the final touches of our cultural unit for our big celebration. The children have really enjoyed learning about the people and wildlife of Australia. There was a buzz of excitement in our classrooms with everyone eager to share all their hard work.
This week our main focus has been creating our costumes for cultural day. We talked about Aboriginal body painting and looked at the interesting patterns they would paint on themselves for ceremonial purposes. Each child painted a paper apron influenced by aboriginal body painting and worn for our celebration.
In Ms. Denise's class, Lukas's mom, Ms. Diane, came into read to the class. She read, "Winnie the Pooh- Honey to Share" and "Possum Magic". Thank you, Ms. Diane.
See you after Spring Break!

This has been an extremely exciting week here in the Lower Elementary. We are wrapping up our studies of Ancient China. The children have learned so much and they were truly excited to share it with you today. Thank you for coming to the fabulous Ancient Cultures day.
This week we discussed more about the dynasties of Ancient China. Specifically the Qin Dynasty that existed from c. 221 BC - 210 BC. This dynasty lasted for only a short time, but they accomplished quite a bit. It was during this period that the Great Wall of China was built. It was also the time that the Terracotta Warriors were created. The Emperor created these life size warriors to enter into eternity with him when he died. There are over 7,000 of these warriors! They are still being unearthed today.
We hope you have a fun and restful Spring Break!

It's been a great week and we all enjoyed Cultural Day.
Thank you to our parents for coming and seeing the work we've been doing the last few weeks.
When we return from Spring Break, we'll be back to Math and Geometry in the morning along with our new unit on Greek Mythology. Students will be reading D'Aulaires' Greek Myths. We purchased a copy of this beautiful book for every child. We will be integrating Science and Language Arts into this study.
Have a great Spring Break.

This week in middle school we prepared for Cultural Day. We worked on our palm leaf books that were on different things we learned about Ancient India. Thank you to the parents who brought in covered food for us to eat. We had a blast at the school's museum-themed cultural day.
This week we had 4 tests. They were on our Greek vocabulary, Wordly Wise lesson 20, Ancient India, and Analogy bridges. In yearbook, we have started deciding on pages and are looking for pictures from other school events; so send in pictures. Auction and class pictures of the children will be taken the week after spring break.
We are also looking for brand name candy or food boxes to make one of our auction projects so please send some in as soon as possible as we are beginning auction projects as soon as we get back from Spring break. Happy Spring Break, and we will see you all in a week.

LOWER ELEMENTARY: Most of our lessons this week revolved about spiders. We learned their main parts in Spanish and many related words to their habitat, food and specific characteristics for some spider types, e. g. Tarantula, Black Widow, Spitting Spider and Brown Recluse. We also introduced a song about a very active spider that takes Karate lessons, exercises, dances, swims, paints her house and is forever engaged in some kind of activity! This was a fun way to review our verbs.

UPPER ELEMENTARY: The Sea and its mysterious beauty and power was the theme for our lessons. We located some oceans and seas in the different continents of the world, we wrote an "A to Z" list about things on, under, and above the seas. Barracuda, salmon, dolphin, whale, and sharks were some of the selected words as were submarine, alga, coral reefs and cruise ships. It was a very interesting unit and students related very well to this topic. We then watched a short video about a squid.
MIDDLE SCHOOL: "A Change of Planet" was the title for our weekly reading which also served as our conversational introduction. We were very intrigued about the changes that were taken place as the story evolved. We now have a better appreciation for birds, trees and "Mother Nature' and a stronger desire to value the natural resources in our beloved planet Earth. We also practiced conjugations of verbs ending in "AR".
TRIVIA FACT: Rio De Janeiro, the carnival City in Brazil, welcomed about 900,000 visitors who enjoyed a multi-million dollar extravaganza of costumes music and theater. According to recent figure by the city, this recent event padded the local economy by more than $700 million!
May you all have a very pleasant and safe "Spring Break".
