Appreciation Goes Both Ways

On behalf of the PTA, parent Rachelle Bedke reminds parents to make their contributions to Teacher Appreciation by this coming Wednesday.  The donation box is near the gate.  As well, she asks that you feel free to write notes or take whatever action you wish on a personal level to let teachers know you care.

PTA is providing a lunch for staff and monetary gifts.

All of the staff of the school extend their heartfelt appreciation to the families for their support, kindness, involvement and contributions throughout the school year.

Thanks to each of you for being a part of the BPS

child-centered community!

PreK/Kindergarten

Taking turns in the mornings, the kindergarten children have had a chance to visit the Lower Elementary class, the class they will join next year. They thoroughly enjoyed it and came back feeling very proud.

We are learning about the earth, sun and solar system. This is a fun adventure for our last week together and the children have had many amazing questions about the universe.

We are also studying and learning about frogs, their life cycle and the parts of frogs. Some of the children drew their own life cycles, beautiful works of art!

We celebrated Bea and Dylan's summer birthday, which is June 17th, and Ruby's summer birthday, which is June 11th.  A very happy birthday to all of you! Thank you for the wonderful treats.

This week we say goodbye to our friends Charlotte and Stephanie Smith. We wish them all the best and a safe journey in their move. We will miss you!

We are looking forward to seeing families for the End of Year Program on Friday.

 Lower Elementary

The days are flying by! This week we discussed the history of Time-Keeping.  The children were surprised to hear about the bowl clock that originated in China.  The bowl clock was made by floating a bowl in a bucket of water.  A small hole allowed tiny drops of water into the bowl.  Drop by drop, the bowl filled with water to show the passing of time.  We decided that the way we keep time today is much easier and more efficient.

Miss Kristen read Sadako and the Thousand Paper Cranes by Eleanor Coerr.  This is a beautiful and tragic true story of a little girl from Hiroshima.  The children sat entranced as they heard her tale of courage.  As Sadako deals with her leukemia, she makes paper cranes and wishes to feel better.  We will be trying to make 1000 paper cranes by next Friday.  Keep your eyes open at graduation for the beautiful paper cranes.

Please note that Crazy Hat Day is next Tuesday, May 21st.  We also sent home a request with each child for food items for our party next week.  If you did not get one or you forgot what your item is, please see Miss Patti.

We wish to thank all of you for your continued love and support.  We love our Beach Park families.  We will see you at the End of Year Program on Friday morning at 11 when students are honored and we all have lunch together.

Upper Elementary
Lauren and Alec work on their digestive system project

We have had a busy week finishing up presentations on human anatomy. Students have been busy making short videos, some Power Points, posters, brochures, models and much more to create their small group presentation. We look forward to seeing them all Monday.

Next week promises to be busy. Monday we have presentations. Tuesday is a trip to the North Shore Pool and Beach in St Petersburg just north of the Vinoy Hotel with Middle School. Wednesday is our day to finish things up and clean our classroom for the end of the year. On Thursday we have our party and a rehearsal for Friday.

Friday morning is the end of year program and moving up ceremony for 3rd year students from Primary, Lower Elementary and Upper Elementary. The culmination of the program is 8th year's graduation ceremony. We hope everyone plans to attend.

Look for information about summer reading and supplies for next year to come home in the end of year progress report.

Middle School

Middle School went on their long awaited and well-planned end-of-year class trip this past week.

Leaving on Tuesday, they traveled by van to north Florida where they stayed on the beach in Destin for three nights. Day trips were made to Adventures Unlimited near Milton for kayaking and zipline rides through the forest.  As well, the students visited Wakulla Springs and Ponce de Leon State Park where they hiked and swam.  They returned Friday afternoon tired and happy.

The 8th graders will graduate at Friday's End of Year Program which starts at 11 am.  See you there!

LOWER ELEMENTARY: By popular demand we read the story of "The Magic Cane". This book not only has the element of surprise, but also brings up situations where magic is involved. The students are always fascinated with the evil Moconoco, the old lady, Karmelo and his three children with their unique elemental gifts of fire, water, and wind.  We find many conversational phrases and sentences throughout the reading and we practice listening skills at the same time.

UPPER ELEMENTARY:  We dedicated this week to the review of verbs from the three different conjugations. Our oral and written assignments had to do with the 68 verbs that were selected for this specific purpose.

MIDDLE SCHOOL: This group is enjoying their end of the year trip. I am sure they are having a wonderful time!

TRIVIA FACT: Brazil is the largest country in Latin America, and the only Portuguese-speaking country in the Americas. The Christ Redeemer statue in Rio de Janeiro is one of the New 7 Wonders of the World.

May you all have a safe and pleasant summer!

What  a fun way to wind down the school year!

On Tuesday, May 21st, the Upper Elementary  and Middle School sutdents will go to North Shore Park at 901 North Shore Dr NE in St. Petersburg for a day of art and fun in the sunshine.

Sand sculpture will take place on the beach facing Tampa Bay just north of the Vinoy Hotel and students will swim in the North Shore pool, a lifeguard supervised facility.

Children should wear bathing suits under clothes and bring a towel and change of clothes. Bag lunches should be brought  for a picnic before return to school  around 1:30 pm.

Thank you to the parents who have volunteered to drive and chaperone.  Couldn't do it without you!
