Our preschool classes are working on completing our Auction projects. We are looking forward to showing off these unique and one of a kind art pieces to you next Saturday!

We are continuing to work on spring related lessons, such as, animals that hatch from eggs, parts of the rabbit and following directions by using our best listening skills.

In Spanish, children are practicing common vocabulary words related to primavera - spring such as nubes - clouds, sol - sun,  lluvia - rain.

A very happy birthday to Anika, who turns 5 and Katie Arnold, who also turned 5 this week. Congratulations to both of you and thank you for the wonderful treats!

 Lower Elementary

We are continuing our study of insects in lower elementary.  After releasing our butterflies last week, we ordered some ladybug larvae.  They are still in the larval stage, and we hope to see the life cycle complete itself next week.

We are expanding our study with the first knowledge cards, where we must answer the question, "Who am I?" based on clues.

The children have also been having a blast with Mad Libs!  While using the grammar symbols, students identify parts of speech and create silly stories.  Some have even written their own for others to fill in!

We  hope you are planning to attend the school auction next week on Saturday, April 6.

Upper Elementary

Students will study the anatomy of the frog as an introduction to human anatomy. The two have similarities in the internal anatomy. Everyone worked on a virtual frog anatomy website after Ms. Ann gave a lesson on how to use the Website. Next week, we'll continue with an introduction into the comparative internal anatomy of the five classes of vertebrates and classification activities. We will be doing an actual frog dissection on Tuesday with the Middle School.

We have also been working on some fabulous auction projects. Don't miss coming to the school auction on April 6th to see our projects and art. Besides supporting the school, you'll have a great time!

Middle School

On Monday we had two college students from University of Tampa come in and talk to us about the Titanic mock trial we will be having.  They are Professor Alisa Smith's students.

On Tuesday we started our Hillsborough River study. We are learning about the different biomes in and around the river and went to Trout Creek Park today for field study.

We are working on projects from Middle School for the auction.  We hope you will like them. Look for them next Saturday!

LOWER ELEMENTARY: This week found us immersed in an exciting story about an adventurous flamingo named Marco and his friends. The reading took us to various habitats and prepared us for the final adventure which took place in a wondrous cave filled with swallows, bats, salamanders and some unusual visitors; a leopard, a goat, a snake and a vulture. What a combination! It was a fun reading followed by true and false statements. We enjoyed the vivid colors in the illustrations very much. We also practiced some verbs by acting them out.

UPPER ELEMENTARY: We had many lessons about building sentences in Spanish using the correct placement of adjectives, nouns, verbs, and articles in a sentence. Our weekly reading was about a party in a tropical forest and how the animals showed us their special talents; even Armando the armadillo, who thought he had no special talent at all. A vocabulary list related to the story was dictated and students, according to their levels created sentences or a short composition.

MIDDLE SCHOOL: Writing interrogative sentences in Spanish took most of our time this week. We had an extensive practice; oral and written exercises using the words "who?", "what?", "where?", "how much?", "how many?" and "when?".  Some time was also spent in reviewing prepositions. It was a week full of fun activities.

TRIVIA FACT:  The Madrid subway in Spain is the 2nd largest underground system in Europe and the 6th largest system in the world. It has 141 miles of track and still growing!

Auction Update

The wine is coming in for the Instant Wine Cellar, Class Baskets are filling and many fantastic auction items have arrived this week.

Thanks to all who have turned in your RSVP for "A Sunshine State of Mind."  You may RSVP through next week.

And thanks to our many, generous sponsors for underwriting this event!

Students and Ms. Katrina, the BPS art teacher, are putting the finishing touches on the class art projects.  They will be auctioned during the Live Auction by our guest auctioneer, Steve Persall, film critic of the Tampa Bay Times.

Beach Park Bundle: Take a chance that you will win the Beach Park iPad/Apple TV raffle! Share raffle tickets with family and friends!  Tickets will remain on sale through the week and during the auction, you may buy tickets up until the drawing takes place.

The Money Tree:  Imagine a tree that sprouts money!  The Money Tree has lottery tickets and cash 'growing' on it.  It could be worth...millions!  You will have a chance to win the money tree in The Money Tree raffle, starting next week and going through the auction.

Auction Book: Next week you will receive the Auction Book and will be able to preview the auction.  If you are not able to attend, you can bid on items you want with a proxy bid form that will be with the book.   The form must be turned in by Friday afternoon.

Kids Preview & Wish List:  Next Friday, the children in 1st grade and up will have a chance to preview many of the auction items.  They will be able to sign the Kids Wish List cards for items they want their parents to bid on.  Parents at the auction will find these cards on the auction tables to "help" them guide their bidding.

Photo of Your Child:  Individual, special auction photos of each child in the school have been made by parent Tacy Troncoso of MamaRazzi Photography.  These framed keepsakes will be available at the auction for only $20 each.

Babysitting:  There is no babysitting provided at the Auction however, some of the Middle School girls will babysit at the Kittredge home, only a few blocks from St. Mary's Hall.  You may contact Pam Kittredge and inquire about babysitting at 813-992-9899.

Thank you! Many parents have been doing the behind-the-scenes work necessary to prepare for this evening of fun and friendship.  And many will be working through next week, setting up the decor and helping afterwards. Thanks to all of you for making this amazing event happen!

Watch for more Auction info next week.
