As we prepare to wrap up a very successful 2015-2016 school year, we wanted to give everyone a summer update. Despite our students leaving us for the summer, SJV does not slow down much!
First of all, we have formed a number of search committees who are extremely proactive in their efforts to fill our open teaching positions. We have been interviewing candidates on a weekly basis, and doing all we can to find the best possible teachers for SJV. As soon as we have hired all of our candidates, we will send out a special announcement detailing all of the new employees.
There are also a number of exciting opportunities for our staff members as well. A team of five staff members will be traveling to St. Louis in June to attend a four-day training in a program called Virtue Based Restorative Discipline. Essentially, it is an anti-bullying program that is designed to decrease anti-social behaviors and increase faith practices. It moves away from punitive methods of dealing with anti-social behavior, getting to the root cause using our Catholic virtues and faith as the foundation. This team will then come back and train the rest of the staff for the 2016-17 school year.
A number of staff members will also be participating in the following programs to deepen and strengthen their own professional development over the summer:
- Ed Camp 2016 - This is an opportunity for our staff to join professional educators in the Archdiocese to collaborate and discuss relevant topics in the world of education today.
- Mentor Training - Three of our teachers will be formally trained as mentor teachers to provide support and mentorship to our new employees.
- Learning Support Conference - Six of our staff members will be attending a two-day conference on assessment, feedback, and grading in August.
- SJV teachers will also be engaged in course work at the university level as they further develop 21st century teaching skills.
While summer is a time for some relaxation and fun, we can assure you that our staff will be working very hard to ensure that we have a great 2016-17 school year!
Positively SJV,

Hot Lunch Balances Just a reminder to all SJV families- the balance in your child's hot lunch account will carry over to next year. For the 8th graders, the balance will go to their next sibling, or will be refunded, if over $5, if there are no sibling accounts. For account balances of graduates with no younger siblings and non-returning students that are less than $5, reimbursement is made only if requested in writing. We would appreciate any negative balances zeroed out by the last day of school. Happy Summer from the cafeteria staff - Claudia Towne, Judi Sottile, Jane Suro, Sue Stepp, Kim Nixon and Mary Claire Barker.

Battle of the Books Saint John Vianney is very excited to once again participate in Battle of the Books (B.O.B)! This voluntary program for students who will be in 4th, 5th, and 6th grade in fall of 2016. Battle of the Books is designed to introduce children to new authors, as well as encouraging a love of reading, all in the spirit of friendly competition. All readers are welcome, however, B.O.B is aimed at children who love to read and are committed to reading from the list of books provided. We will have a meeting within the first few weeks of September for our formal kick off! However, the book list for 2016-2017 is attached so any student that is thinking about joining in the fall can get a jump start on reading. (Even if your child is not certain that he or she will participate, this is a great summer reading list!)

If you would like to donate uniform items for the sale, you can drop them off in front of the parish office on Sunday, June 5th before or after the 9:00am and 11:00am Masses. The resale is a great opportunity for families to purchase gently used uniforms. You will find a good selection of short and long sleeved polo shirts, pants and shorts; jumpers and skirts, sweatshirts and leggings. When donating items, please be mindful that shoppers at the sale are looking for items in decent condition. Please don't donate items that are stained or well worn.
