During the school day on Tuesday, February 23rd, all middle school students will be given the opportunity to join over one million students across the United States to participate in this year's Math League Contest. Students visited the Math League site to search and practice contest questions from previous years. The students were able to customize their contests according to level of difficulty and even take a peek at the questions that students answered at the National Championships.

6th graders made a volcano with a balloon, paint, sand and beans. When our balloon was covered in "pyroclastic material" they popped it and measured how far the materials splattered in the room.
|
Third grade students played Canadian Bowling in gym class. This game uses six pins, instead of ten.
|
One of our fifth grade girls basketball teams placed second in the St. Jerome's tournament this past weekend. Way to go!
|
Congratulations to the seventh grade basketball team. They placed first at the St. Matthias Tournament in December, placed second at the St. Anthony Tournament in January and second at the Waukesha Catholic Tournament this past weekend.

We would like to inform you of a change to the upcoming middle school/specials conferences on Monday, March 7th. The middle school/specials conferences will now be scheduled via Signup Genius, similarly to the K5-5th grade conferences. The rationale being that in past years there are times during conferences when the cafeteria is full, and people are waiting in lines that are 10 people deep, while at other times the cafeteria is empty and our teachers have no one to see. The scheduling of these conferences should alleviate those problems and create a much smoother atmosphere.
The Signup Genius link will be emailed to all parents and is also accessible in the Weekly. Each conference will last seven minutes with each teacher. While this might not sound like a lot of time, we feel that this is the perfect amount of time to meet with each teacher and have a quality discussion of your son or daughter's progress. It is up to your family to decide which teachers you would like to schedule for conferences, keeping in mind that one teacher is required.
We also realize that there are more middle school students than available time slots. If you would like to meet with a particular teacher and realize that his or her schedule is completely full, please contact that teacher, and they would be happy to set something up outside of the conference times.
Finally, we ask that you please adhere to your assigned times. In order for the day to run smoothly and efficiently, we ask that families are on time for their conferences and that we respect the time of others. Please note that there will be no changes to the K4-5th grade conferences.
Please do not hesitate to contact us with any questions or concerns.
Positively SJV,

Track Head Coach Needed Our SJV Track season starts in April and we are in need of a head coach/coordinator. The track season typically runs from the beginning of April through mid-May with twice a week practices and approximately six meets. There are other parent volunteers to assist at practices and meets. SJV's Track program offers great exposure to this sport prior to high school with over 60 parish children participating each year. SJV will be unable to continue this program if we are unable to find a head coach. If you are interested, please e-mail Katy Sarner or call 414-232-2822.

Please Check Your Laundry
The health room has recently loaned many pairs of pants, socks, underpants and shirts to our students. Please check your laundry and return items that don't belong to your family. We currently do not have an ample selection of clothes to loan to students who need an emergency change of clothes. Also, if your family has any uniform clothing items they no longer use, please consider donating them to the health room. Thank you!

SCRIP-THE Best Fundraiser Ever! Q. Why is SCRIP a great fundraiser? A. Because families don't have to spend any extra money on items they don't want or need. Simply purchase gift cards for weekly expenses and at the same time, earn profits for SJV and cash back for yourself. Purchase a card at its face value, for example $50 and use it for $50 in purchases at your favorite store. On that $50 card, the rebates earned are shared by you and SJV. It's a Win/Win! Q. How does SJV use the money earned from your purchases? A. SJV Home and School uses the profits to fund activities and programs for all students, such as Catholic Schools Week, Back to School Social, High Interest Day, Assemblies, Playground equipment, Books for classrooms, Secret Santa Shoppe, Teacher Appreciation and much more. If you have never used SCRIP and would like more information, please call Martha Connelly, Amy Lodes, or Janet Fisher. If you are out of the habit of using SCRIP, we invite you to try it again. There are so many great ways to use SCRIP and support your school at the same time! Next SCRIP order - Tuesday, February 23. Please send your orders to school or complete your online orders by 8:30am.
