December 1, 2015
Greetings!
We are very blessed to be a Catholic school where we can truly focus on the liturgical season of Advent. We will all be excited for Christmas and all of the wonderful things associated with it. However, right now we are taking the time for prayer and reflection as we anticipate the coming of Jesus. Below are some of the school activities that we will be completing as we progress through the Advent season:
  • The whole school gathers each Monday morning for a brief prayer service and Advent candle lighting ceremony
  • Teachers are supplementing their religion classes with Advent lessons and online resources
  • Students in third through eighth grade will be participating in a special opportunity for Eucharistic Adoration on Tuesday, December 15th
  • Each homeroom is participating in a different service opportunity, with many of the homerooms choosing to adopt a family from Prince of Peace.
  • Our K5 students will once again be putting on the Nativity Play on December 8th and 9th, with Prince of Peace coming to watch on December 8th.
  • Thanks to our School Theology and Faith Formation committee, the SJV staff has a number of prayerful activities for our continuing spiritual growth
  • Superintendent Dr. Kathleen Cepelka sends a daily Advent prayer for us as well.

Finally, I wanted to share a short, but really great video on the true meaning of Advent and why it is such a special time in the Catholic faith. I know that a number of our teachers have already shared it with their students, but I thought it would be great to get it out to the parents as well. Please view the video here.
Many blessing this Advent season!

Positively SJV,
Principal

If the goal is reached, the students will recieve a non-uniform day.

Traffic Reminders
Especially as we get into the winter months, please comply with the following for pick up and drop off:
  • PLEASE only make right-hand turns when turning onto Norhardt Drive. Because there is a sign posted, the police can handout tickets for turning left during prohibited times.
  • If you use the car line, please enter and exit via Norhardt Drive. Do not use Calhoun Rd. as an entrance or exit, unless you park near the parish.
Thank you very much for your cooperation.
Doors to Our Faith
Help our parish and school reach its potential by prayerfully considering a sacrificial and meaningful gift to the Doors to Our Faith Capital Campaign.

To date we have raised more than $1 million, and I am so grateful to everyone who has worked to make that possible. Our next tier goal of $2 million is getting closer each day. As we continue to build upon this opportunity, I ask you all to reflect and pray about your involvement in the effort. We need to be sure we have done all that we can, individually and as a community, to realize the dreams of our parish and school. Prayerfully consider how God has blessed you this year and how you can return a portion of those blessings.
Ways to Give
  • Three-Year Pledge: This allows you to spread out your giving and make a larger commitment. Example: a $1,800 pledge is $50/month or less than $2/day.
  • One-Time Gift: If you're not in a position to commit to a three-year pledge, please consider a one-time gift. Every gift is a blessing, and our parish is striving for all members to participate. A one-time gift is a wonderful gift.
  • Begin or Continue Your Automatic Giving: Many parishioners made commitments to the Doors to Our Faith campaign by having their donation automatically withdrawn from their bank account using Faith Direct. Please let the parish know of your intentions so we can accurately record your gift.
With large campaigns such as this one, it is very difficult to contact all parishioners. It takes a considerable volunteer effort from parishioners who have busy lives themselves. If for some reason you have not been contacted about the campaign, please let us know. Stop by, email or call the parish offices to get more information and to make your pledge.

Again I want to say thank you to our parish members and school families who have made a gift to the Doors to Our Faith campaign.

Come Lord Jesus Come! Have a blessed Advent.

Parish News
Pope Francis has declared a Jubilee Year, the Year of Mercy, a time for the Church to celebrate God's unimaginable, overarching mercy to the world. The motto is "Merciful, like the Father." St. John Vianney will offer opportunities to learn more about how the Sacraments reveal the Mercy of the Father. These presentations will teach about the great gift that the Father gives us in the Sacraments and how these graced events help us to grow in mercy.  Join us on Wednesday, December 2 for Matrimony.  The sacrament of Matrimony is the Vocation sacrament for many Catholics. What is this sacrament and how do we receive the grace of mercy and share it?  The presenter will be Susan McNeil, Director, Nazareth Project for Marriage and Family Formation, Archdiocese of Milwaukee.  Click here for all of the information.
Prayer Intentions
Students from Catholic Memorial High School invite you to submit intentions for prayer.  In a collaboration with you through the power of prayer, these students plan to meet as a group after school several times during December and January to read, share, and pray for the submitted intentions. When names and contact information are submitted along with the intention, notecards acknowledging the prayers will be sent. Intentions can be emailed to ksampon@catholicmemorial.net.
