SJV Highlights
Students in 3N and 8 White were very excited to meet and get to know one another. They interviewed their buddy to find out interesting information about each other. This will be an awesome opportunity to make new friends, lead by example and Walk by Faith!
Students in Mrs. Scaffidi's science class made inferences about the functions of roots, stems and leaves while getting hands-on with vascular plants.
The students in Mr. Stemper's class participated in the Elmbrook Fire Department's Survive Alive program. During the morning, they learned about safety hazards throughout the house and got to experience them in actual scenarios.  They also got to experience how to use a fire extinguisher and set up an escape plan. Then they had to make emergency phone calls to an operator, which is a valuable skill.
Students in 5K took a walk to the fire station. After the trip, the kids pretended to be fire fighters at free choice time.  They made hoses and pretended to put out fires.

November 3, 2015
Greetings!
Report Cards:  As you know, the first quarter of the 2015-2016 academic year concluded this past Friday, October 31. The end of a quarter always correlates with the issuance of report cards. With the adoption of Power School by the Archdiocese of Milwaukee, a new report card template was created to be consistent with the Power School student information system. Yesterday, we were notified by the archdiocese that it is quite possible that this template will not be ready by this Friday, which is our designated date for sending home report cards. We want to assure you that we have done everything right on our end. The teachers have all of the grades completed and all of the comments have been entered. However, if the archdiocesan template is not ready, we will be unable to produce and print the report cards.

In this instance, all of the teachers will send home a first quarter progress report, which will detail all of the quarter's assessments and scores. We understand that this is not optimal, nor the planned form of communication that we were hoping to use at this time. However, the end of quarter progress report will provide the essential pieces of information that need to be communicated to families. When the archdiocese completes the work on their end, we will still send home the completed and correct report card as soon as we are able to do so.

It is not uncommon for things to be delayed with the implementation of a new student information system and unfortunately this is a prime example of that. We thank you in advance for your patience and understanding during the completion of this process.

Other Report Card News and Notes:
  • As a reminder, K4 and K5 students will not receive a report card for the first quarter. They will receive a progress update and observations from the first quarter of the academic year. A report card will go home at the end of the second quarter in January.
  • When you receive the completed report card you will see that a health grade has not been indicated for this quarter. Health, which previously was integrated, is a new content area which can be assessed through archdiocesan schools but is not required. This has not yet been assessed this year so there is an absence of a health grade at this time.
  • Included with the progress report on Friday will be registration information for the 2016-2017 school year, the newest edition of the Shamrock Success brochure, and a MAPs goal setting sheet and letter for all of our middle school students.
Positively SJV,
Principal
