SJV Highlights
The Coats for Kids collection was very successful due to your generosity!  With a great start two weeks ago, SJV collected 250 coats.  After two weeks, we added 130 more coats to make a total donation of 380 coats!  Thank you for helping others keep warm this winter!
Follow this link to see the video clips from our visit from Chip Brewster of
Real Milwaukee.

Students in Mrs. Klement's class made observations using their five senses. They explored what different kinds of fruit were like. They determined that the peel protects the fruit.
Fifth graders presented presidential speeches to their classmates.  They then held debates and carried out an election for class president.
6th grade students in Mrs. Heinen's science class went outside to draw and track Earth's major lines of latitude and longitude.
8th grade students in Mr. Dempsey's social studies class held a debate to determine the importance of the Second Amendment.
The 7th grade girls  volleyball team took first place in the St. Matthias tournament this past weekend. Way to go, girls!
The St. John Vianney's 5th grade boys team placed 2nd in the St. Mary's Menomonee Falls tournament over the weekend.
Great job and go SJV!

September 29, 2015
I am proud to announce that the parent portal for Power School is available for your use. Before I get into some specifics, I want to thank everyone for their continued patience in waiting for Power School to become available for parents. I know that it was probably frustrating to not have access for the first month of school, so thank you!

This week we will be mailing a letter to your home with all of the information to setup your Power School account. If you have multiple children enrolled at SJV, you will receive a copy for each student because the login information will be slightly different for each child. Please follow the step-by-step instructions provided for each child to complete the registration. Each child will be linked to the same parent account, though. I recommend completing these steps from a home computer, rather than a mobile device, if possible.

Once you have completed the registration process you will be able to access your child's Power School account. Once you login, you will see all of your child's classes and current grades. If you click on the grade for that class, you will be able to see the individual assignments for that particular class to access more detailed information.
Other features of Power School include:
  • View your child's daily schedule
  • Sign yourself up for automatic emailed reports (daily, weekly, monthly) showing your child's grades, assessments, attendance and more using the "Email Notifications" link.
  • Instantly email the teachers by clicking on their linked names
  • Create multiple parent accounts so that each parent has access to student information
Access your child's information instantly by downloading the Power School Mobile app to your mobile device.
Please be aware that this is a new system for us as well. As you login, if you notice any problems, or if something doesn't look right, please let us know and we will try to address the problem as soon as possible. I think the best way for you to feel comfortable on Power School is to try it for yourselves. I think you will find it to be a very user friendly program that will provide you with a lot of good information regarding your child's performance in school.

Click here for a helpful video covering many different topics, including registering and going over all of the parent functions.

Please look for the letter in the mail this week, and please don't hesitate to contact us if you have any questions at all. Thank you again for your patience.
