Our MAP (Measures of Academic Progress®) testing window is September 10-24. We give students MAP tests to determine your child's instructional level and to measure academic growth throughout the school year and from year to year in the areas of reading and math (K-2) and reading, language arts, and math (3-8). The classroom teachers and resource teachers use this data, along with other classroom-based measures, to form instructional groups that provide support and enrichment for our children in all content and co-curricular areas. MAP tests allow teachers to keep track of progress and growth in skill areas. They let teachers know where a child's strengths are and if help is needed in any specific areas. This assessment provides teachers with an efficient way to assess achievement levels of learners so they can spend more time teaching and less time administering individual diagnostic tests.
MAP tests are unique in that they are adaptive tests your child takes on a computer, meaning the test became more difficult the more questions your child answered correctly. When your child incorrectly answered a question, the test became easier. Therefore, your child took a test specifically created for his or her learning level. In addition, your child should have had the opportunity to learn the information presented on the test because the tests are aligned with the Archdiocese of Milwaukee curriculum.
The students taking MAPS for primary (Grades K5-2) have a reading and a math assessment, each taking approximately 20-30 minutes. Students in grades 3-8 taking MAPS have a reading, language and math assessment, each taking about 45 minutes. (Please note the tests are not timed- these are approximations). The testing window is two weeks long to accommodate all of the grade levels, but your child will only be taking 2-3 tests during that window, depending on their grade level.
We are truly excited to begin a new era that focuses on every child's individual growth and achievement. If you have questions or do not wish for your child to participate in this assessment measure, please contact Dan Demeter or Courtney Albright.
