Well, it's hard to believe that it's back to school week, but here we are! For me personally, it's been one of the fastest summers of my life, but also one of the most exciting, too! The staff came back today for our three days of in-service. As the staff makes our preparations for the new school year, it is always great to have everyone back together and to meet our new staff members. Each year, the staff has a different theme that we base our staff message around. This year, our theme is "Opening the Doors to Faith, Excellence, and Community. Pope Francis has declared 2015-2016 to be a Holy Year, which usually takes place every 25 years. This year's focus will be mercy, which Francis has declared one of the most important themes of his papacy. Normally, the Holy Doors to St. Peter's Basilica are bricked up, not allowing people to pass through. However, during a Holy Year the bricks are removed and people are able to pass through this very special door. What a perfect image to use as we begin our journey together into the upcoming school year. The bricks have been removed and we are free to journey together into a new school year!
I invite you to come along and join us on the exciting journey into the new school year. It is a time for excitement, joy and enthusiasm. We have a wonderful school, filled with wonderful people, and I for one, cannot wait for it to begin! Thank you to everyone for supporting Saint John Vianney School and making it the great place that it is.
I am looking forward to seeing everyone at Orientation Day on Friday to open those doors!

Donations Requested for K4 and K5
Mrs. Andrucci is looking for 60 matchbox-type cars for an alphabet game. If you have any that are no longer being played with, she and her students could put them to good use!
This year Mrs. McRae is transforming her housekeeping center into a new imaginative play center each month. Many of you have some awesome jobs and she was wondering if you could help her collect some items? Some of the things she was hoping to collect would be items to make a doctor's office, a vet, restaurant items, grocery store, etc. If you have any items that may be of use for her classroom, please drop them off in the school office. Her students would truly appreciate it! Thanks.

Orientation Day help needed.
Hello SJV families - We look forward to seeing your family at SJV's Orientation Day on Friday, August 21. To make this morning a success, we are in need of middle school students and adult volunteers.
There are several opportunities for you and your middle schooler to volunteer for a short shift and still have plenty of time to accomplish all of your family's own Orientation Day tasks (submitting forms, visiting classrooms, having school pictures taken, etc.)
Volunteer hours for middle school students will count toward the annual student service hour requirements.

SJV Alum Receives JSEA Award SJV Alumni, Kevin Cekanor, was selected as the winner of the Jesuit Secondary Education Association (JSEA) Award for the Class of 2015 at Marquette University High School (MUHS). All young men who graduate from MUHS have completed a program of formation that strives to develop in each person the characteristics and qualities that reflect the tradition and ideals of Jesuit Education. Each graduate is provided with and asked to respond generously to the challenge to become a young man who is: Seeking Intellectual Excellence, Open to Growth, Religious, Loving and Committed to Justice. The JSEA Award annually recognizes the student that most exemplifies these five qualities of the "Graduate at Graduation" and is voted on by all faculty and staff at MUHS. It is a significant honor for Kevin to be the recipient of this award. He was selected as the winner from a class of 248 students. It is also an affirmation of the formation provided by St. John Vianney prior to him being a student at MUHS.
