The Chromebooks have arrived and are already being used in the middle school. The 7th grade social studies students have just finished a unit on world governments, in which they debated and created a democratic government for a fictional country. They are using the Chromebooks to write a detailed report of their new government using Google Docs. A special Thank You to our SJV community who raised the funds to provide these valuable learning tools for us.

Students in Kindergarten have been busy! They learned about the life cycle of a butterfly and watched as our caterpillars turned into chrysalis' and over the weekend turned into butterflies. We had fun watching them fly off.
Also, K5 students learned about the past, present and future by making their own timelines of their life and presenting them to their classmates.
|
Students enjoyed being "Maintenance Person of the Day" and "Principal of the Day". These experiences were from packages bid on at Bids for Kids.
|
The Principals for the Day hosted a working lunch for a panel of students who participated in a SWOT analysis of student activities for the 2014-2015 school year.
A SWOT analysis helps to identify the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats related to a program or initiative. The top picture shows the students engaged in the preliminary discussion. The bottom photo shows how they organized their raw data in a chart.

Thank you again for donations to the recent toiletry drive. Here are some notes from the recipients of your kindness:
From the Guest House:
The 86 men at the Guest House of Milwaukee sincerely thank you for your recent donations of hygiene products. "Summer slide." For some of us, this phrase brings to mind playgrounds, the backyard Slip 'n Slide or a water park. For some of us, usually teachers and parents, the term summer slide describes the dip in performance experienced when a child returns for the new school year. Summer slide is not inevitable, and avoiding it can mean wonderful family learning fun. A group of SJV faculty members, including Mrs. McRae, Mrs. Blaha, Mr. Stemper, Mrs. Kaminski, Mrs. Goss, Mrs. Bansal, Mrs. Revers, Mrs. Gesiorek and myself put our heads together and came up with a list of websites, apps, and local activities to promote summer learning fun. Oh, and don't forget our own SJV Super Summer Camp! Space remains available in some classes. Watch for special summer editions of the Shamrock Weekly!
Peace,

Hot Lunch Balances
Just a reminder to all SJV families- the balance in your child's hot lunch account will carry over to next year. For the 8th graders, the balance will go to their next sibling, or will be refunded, if over $5, if there are no sibling accounts. For account balances of graduates with no younger siblings and non-returning students that are less than $5, reimbursement is made only if requested in writing. We would appreciate any negative balances zeroed out by the last day of school. Happy Summer from the cafeteria staff - Claudia Towne, Judi Sottile, Jane Suro, Sue Stepp, Kelly Feng and Mary Claire Barker.

 8th Graders Make Donation
Thank you to the SJV 8th Grade Class of 2015! This class has truly demonstrated how they have learned about the importance of giving and service during their time at SJV, as they voted to raise money for the Santisimo Sacramento library project in Piura, Peru for their Class Gift. They have raised $1045.00, and a portion of that was matched, thanks to the generosity of Mr. John Horvath and U.S. Bank Corporation. These wonderful 8th graders, along with U.S. Bank, exemplify what service truly means. Thank you, 8th graders, and may God Bless You as you journey through your life!

Thank You, Volunteers! Thank you, parents, for an outstanding year! When looking back, it is amazing to see all that has been accomplished by working together. Our goal is to make our SJV community the best it can be for our children. As an organization, we support our teachers, administration and children all through the volunteer efforts from our parents. We pass the torch on to the 2015-16 co-chairs, Stephanie Rossi and Laura Russell, and are excited to welcome them aboard! We welcome Kris Tontis as treasurer and are grateful to Amy DiPiazza returning as secretary. We bid goodbye to Martha Connelly, the outgoing treasurer, and thank her for her dedication and attention to details for the last two years. We also thank Victoria Alberts who served as our advisor, always with a smile. We are excited to see so many new faces as committee chairs for next year! Check out the list here and tell them a great big "Thank You" next time you see them. We continue to look for committee chairs for next year and have openings for Orientation Day, Public Relations, Room Parents, Strings Supporters, Schwans and BIDS for Kids. Please say "Yes" when we call you! These are all important committees to fill and we appreciate your willingness to offer your talents and skills. Thanks a million! Clare Lange & Janet Fisher H&S Chairs 2014-2015

Summer SCRIP
Thank you to our faithful SCRIP users! We have had a great year and would like to have you continue ordering this summer. We will be placing orders July 6, July 20, August 3, and August 10th. These are Monday deadlines and like always in the summer, Scrip will be available to pick up at the Parish Office the following Thursday.
To our online customers, please note these instructions. If you are reloading plastic cards or printing them off at home (ScripNow), you may continue to do so and receive immediate usage just like you always have enjoyed. But please note, if you order PLASTIC cards, you will only receive them the Thursday after our orders have been placed in July and August. Remember when you use PrestoPay, the money will be drawn from your bank account the very next day. We want you to be extra careful when placing your orders so you can avoid paying for your SCRIP, but not being able to use it until weeks later. If you have any questions concerning online ordering, please feel free to contact Martha Connelly, 262-717-9389 or Janet Fisher, 262-784-9673.

Brookfield Farmers Market- Market & More Days This year SJV has the unique opportunity to participate at the Brookfield Farmers Market-Market and More Days! The School Committee has reserved space on June 20th, July 18th, and August 15th for our school to showcase our talented students. We are looking for someone to coordinate a group of students for one Saturday. Maybe band, strings, or Shamrock Choir students would be interested in performing one morning. Or another Saturday a Girl or Boy Scout Troop could facilitate a simple art craft for the little shoppers. A group of middle school students could participate with some friends and help represent SJV. Chess Club, Lego Club, athletics or any other school group available to participate is welcome! This is an excellent opportunity for middle school students to earn service hours while promoting school spirit and sharing our Catholic faith. School Committee will provide a SJV tent and some supplies for the morning. Once we understand the interest level from parents, kids and teachers we'll be better able to communicate more details. So get your organization and friends together and contact Ann Marie Hess to spread some SJV spirit this summer!

Hip Hip Hooray, It's Independence Day! We are excited to announce SJV is participating in Brookfield's July 4th Parade! I have volunteered to help organize this event for the school, but as Uncle Sam would say, "We Want You" to help make it happen! Does your child participate in a school sport or club that would be interested in walking together in the parade? Or would your family like to pass out candy to spectators as you show your school spirit? Have your kids always wanted to be in a parade instead of watching one? This is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate our great nation's independence with fellow classmates and school families. Please contact Ann Marie Hess if your group or family is interested in celebrating July 4th "SJV style". Let Freedom Ring!
